Shear Operator

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**

**Maintenance**
- Perform pre-shift inspection.
- Record results.

**Order Preparation**
- Review orders and select required steel from inventory.
- Distinguish between different gauges of steel.
- Set-up machine, as required.
- Inspect quality of steel (i.e., squareness, dimensions).
- Shear material to required size.
- Sort orders as required (i.e. according to gauge(s), order, shipping date, etc).
- Set up machine to accommodate various steel gauges 14, 16, 18, 20.
- Skid and label all sheared parts, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Housekeeping**
- Keep work area(s) clean.
- Remove excess scrap from Sheer and sort accordingly.
- Participate in steel recovery program.

**Physical Capabilities**
- Mechanical dexterity with good hand eye coordination
- Ability to lift heavy items - weight handling up to 22.5 Kg (50 lbs)

**Specific Skills**
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to accurately read measuring instruments (i.e., measuring tape, vernier caliper, level etc ) in both metric and imperial units.
- Ability to set-up and operate all Shearing Equipment, as assigned.
- Ability to read production orders and drawings.
- Ability to adapt and adjust to various assignments.

**Requirements**:

- One (1) to three (3) years of machine operating experience is an asset
