The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE) seeks a passionate organizer and experienced campaigner to join our diverse team in Whistler. This hybrid, part-time position (20 hours/week) requires at least one day a week in our Cheakamus Lake Road office in Whistler, with fieldwork around Whistler.
Founded in 1989, AWARE is Whistler’s environmental charity, tackling major challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and waste management. The Zero Waste Campaigner will lead initiatives to advance our community’s Zero Waste Goals, emphasizing the importance of community engagement alongside policy efforts. Key tasks include revitalizing the Diversion Plan with a focus on Residential and Commercial Organics Diversion.

**Core Responsibilities**
- Lead Zero Waste Initiatives: Drive community-focused campaigns to advance Whistler’s Zero Waste Goals.
- Research Best Practices: Investigate innovative waste management solutions and policies from other communities to inform local strategies.
- Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage residents and businesses in sustainable practices.
- Revitalize the Diversion Plan: Focus on enhancing Residential and Commercial Organics Diversion efforts.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with local government, organizations, and community members to promote and implement waste reduction strategies.
- Educate and Advocate: Provide information and resources to the community about waste management and its environmental impacts.
- Monitor and Report Progress: Track campaign effectiveness and provide regular updates on progress toward Zero Waste Goals.
- Build Partnerships: Foster relationships with local businesses and community groups to support waste reduction efforts.
- Conduct Outreach Activities: Organize events, workshops, and presentations to raise awareness and encourage participation in Zero Waste initiatives.
- Communicate Effectively: Produce written materials, reports, and social media content to promote campaigns and engage the community.

- Creative Communicator: You have strong writing skills and are adept at producing engaging materials for reports, social media, and community outreach.
- Qualifications: Must have a valid Driver’s License, and be based within the Sea-to-sky corridor to conduct field work as required. Post secondary education in a related field is an asset.

Pay: $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
