We are seeking a dynamic, committed professional to join our team:
Project Leader - Mechanical

1.0 Regular

Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week

ESP Level 9 - $61,443 - $79,287 per annum

Reporting to the Team Manager of Design and Construction, the Project Leader is responsible for contract management, supervision, specific and ongoing mechanical related design and construction projects, project investigative and design planning activities for mechanical systems and components, replacement and renewal. Leads the mechanical project team in the development and deployment of the mechanical related portfolio for renovations, upgrades, renewal, and any Code/Regulatory compliance projects. The Project Leader acts as a technical resource for all Board facility and property issues related to mechanical systems and components.

**Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Leading various teams (Board staff, Architects, Engineers and Contractors) in the development of mechanical design and construction projects, such as new construction, renovations, additions, and renewals.

Forecasting to identify the Board’s capital investment needs; conducting audits

and analysis;
Oversee and administer service and construction contracts; including CCDC

construction contracts and mechanical engineering contract agreements;
Developing budgets, tender documents, procurement, cost control and financial

reports;
Approving expenditures in compliance of signing limits as identified in Board

Policies and Procedures;
Participate in the Board’s Project User Committee with regards to establishing

educational standards for New Schools.

Liaising with Ministry of Education, City of Ottawa, and other regulatory authorities

for project approvals, agreements and reporting.

Post secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology/Technician Diploma, or related field of study; and minimum of 5 - 8 years of related work experience; An equivalent combination of education and experience is also considered.

A professional certification from Professional Engineers of Ontario, Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians (OACETT) and a certificate in Project Management from a recognized association would be considered an asset.

Project management and contract administration experience required, including maintaining and monitoring project budgets and schedules.

Knowledge of relevant Board policies and procedures; administrative practices; Building Codes, legislative Acts and Regulations;
Ability to lead and direct teams on construction projects with success. Organization and time management skills to ensure timely completion of projects within contract timelines and financial resources.

Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills required to effectively respond to inquiries and requests both with internal and external contacts. Ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion when communicating with project teams, members of the community, consultant/contractors.

Ability to negotiate changes with consultants/contractors in work scope for construction and engineering assignments.

Initiative and judgment required to give direction and solve problems.

Research and analytical skills required to locate, retrieve, interpret, and analyze information/data/documents.

Computer skills, including proficiency in AutoCAD, and the ability to manage facility information through the use of relevant databases, spreadsheets and project scheduling software;
Valid class G driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for travel to sites in the District.
