**Salary**: $3,147.32 - $4,235.37 biweekly ($82,145 - $110,543 per yearly)

The Court of Appeal of Alberta sits in both Edmonton and Calgary and hears criminal appeals from the Court of Justice and both criminal and civil appeals from the Court of King's Bench. It also hears appeals from administrative and board tribunals and reviews records to determine whether errors of law or fact were made in a decision. In addition, the Court of Appeal may be asked to provide an opinion on questions referred to it by the Lieutenant Governor in Council under the Judicature Act.

**Role Responsibilities**:
This Manager, Special Projects role will include: (a) knowledge transfer and training/support for the Director of Operations, (b) continuation of current outstanding projects and (c) further development and implementation of organization redesign.

**(a) Knowledge Transfer and Training Support and Expertise**
This temporary Manager, Special Projects role, needs a full understanding of the Director of Operations role for the Court of Appeal. The incumbent must have extensive experience with the Courts, and extensive experience with the Court of Appeal, preferably as the Director of Operations and Deputy Registrar. The incumbent must have experience chairing and leading the Court of Appeal Leadership Team and be considered a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and Chief Justice of Alberta on matters of staffing, leadership and supervision, and court operations. Must have extensive knowledge of court operations, PSC policy and protocols, budgeting and finance, Infrastructure, emergency preparedness and technology (such as 1GX). Activities will include onboarding, training, coaching, shadowing and monitoring the new Director of Operations.

**(b) Continuing Current Projects**
Several positions are being re-designed and there are current accountability and tasks that are being re-assigned and delegated. The Manager, Special Projects will finish several short-term initiatives including: outstanding Director of Operations and Deputy Registrar projects (i.e., ensure smooth transition of newly delegated or re-assigned tasks, and support and direct development of processes for new tasks), and develop transition and succession planning for senior roles (i.e., Case Management Officer, Chief Justice's Office, Executive Director & Registrar).

**(c) Organization Redesign Review and Implementation**

**(d) Role Act or Temporary Backup**

Dependent on operational demands, this position may be required to role act as temporary backup to the Executive Director and Registrar, Director of Operations and/or the Deputy Registrar positions.

University degree in a related field supplemented by a minimum of four years’ managerial experience legal operations environment. A law degree is preferred, but other degrees will be considered with supplementary experience.

Assets include: extensive Alberta Courts operational experience with at least 10 years of experience working with the Court of Appeal, several of which were completed in the Court of Appeal of Alberta’s Director of Operation’s role. Experience as the Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal of Alberta will also be considered an asset.

A proven track record in agile design and implementation of change in an environment with various stakeholders (from top to bottom in the organization structure) to coordinate, plan, execute, and track progress from beginning to end is required.

Demonstrated competencies in leading and participating on a team to seek input and affect change. Excellent time management, written and oral communication, team building and change management skills are also required to maintain a fast-paced environment and to ensure participants remain engaged and responsive to the changing environment.

The position will also require demonstrated success in developing and maintaining trust and respect of others, positively influencing people, encouraging innovation and creativity, leading change, and motivating individuals and teams.
