**Summary of Responsibilities**:

- Implement client-centred, trauma-informed strategies for the purpose of supporting BIPOC student wellness, reflective of the students self-determined goals
- Maintain current knowledge and comprehensive understanding of relevant University policies, procedures, and practices, providing accurate information about the SWC to students and the broader OCAD University community, including faculty and staff
- Develop relationships with various campus partners and community resources to foster support and engagement
- Participate constructively in relevant internal and external consultation meetings that support the overall work of the SWC and benefit the University community
- Respond as required to on campus and off campus crises/emergencies under the supervision of the Black Student Wellness Counsellor & Practice Lead, Manager, SWC and Dean of Students
- Research, plan and implement student group psycho educational sessions and short-term support groups
- Review, re-assess and modify support plans, including those in crisis and/or at risk of self-harm/suicide, as required, based on student needs and in collaboration with the SWC team and other community supports Complete timely documentation according to Student Wellness Centre and regulatory policies
- Attend weekly SWC meetings, supervision, and consultations; liaise with SWC staff and leadership regarding clinical practice, case management, professional development, consultation, and crisis management
- Assess for, and when appropriate, recommend non-disability accommodations, and/or short-term academic accommodations, liaising with Student Accessibility Services (SAS)Participate in evening, or after-hours programming as required
- Collaborate on the development of resource materials and the delivery of wellness and health promotion outreach for staff, students, and faculty
- Engage in continual professional development and relevant learning to remain current and responsive in practice
- Assist the Manager, SWC and Dean of Students and work collaboratively with the SWC team in other related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of the Centre

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree in related field (Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or equivalent) with a minimum of three (3) years of training/experience in providing community support, group and individual counselling and registration (or eligible for registration) with a regulatory body in Ontario or equivalent combination of education and/or lived experience
- Masters level education is preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a community setting, health/mental health, advocacy, social justice, case management, and/or disability studies
- Competency in relation to the unique needs of BIPOC communities, including effects of ongoing systemic and institutional oppression and trauma, through active engagement in the BIPOC community
- Possess the lived experience, knowledge, and cultural experiences required to address the specific issues BIPOC students face safely and effectively
- Demonstrated respect for individual, cultural, community and organizational diversity, including the ability to identify and understand intersecting issues related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, race/ethnicity, immigration status, religion, Indigenous heritage, and gender identity
- Demonstrated ability to recognize mental health challenges and onset of mental health concerns and make timely, appropriate referrals to physicians and out-patient crisis management services
- Clinical competence and comfort working independently to manage crises and provide ongoing counselling to student artists and designers in an academic setting
- Awareness of the impacts of historical and ongoing colonialism and intergenerational trauma for Indigenous, Metis and Inuit communities, and demonstrated commitment to decolonialization
- Evidence of current experience practicing one-on-one and group counselling, including crisis intervention, conflict resolution, advocacy, and harm reduction
- Ability to foster and maintain partnerships with providers, internally and externally, for purposes of liaising, referrals, health promotion, support planning and system navigation
- Highly developed assessment, listening, observational, therapeutic counselling and motivational interviewing skills
- Proven judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters and the ability to respond tactfully, calmly and with sound judgement to crisis situations and seek consultation as appropriate
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and experience promoting a respect
