**Job Title**:Fiber Optic Splicer
Working under the supervision of the Fiber Manager, the primary responsibilities of the Technician-Fiber Optic Splicing is to support the termination and testing of fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings, maintain control of outside plant (OSP) activities surrounding the assigned work site(s), read and understand network splicing plans, and taking and maintaining accurate field notes.
- Health and safety are the number one goal by following policies, procedures and acting in a safe manner at all times in accordance to the Company Health and Safety policy.
- Analyze test results and have the ability to troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects
- Understand and adhere to customer timelines
- Prepare engineering field notes. Interpret splice diagrams for both buried, underground, and aerial
- telecom facilities in records, on maps and in the field and make recommendations for changes in
fiber assignments
- Work outdoors in various conditions to place fiber optic telecommunication cables
- Climb poles, ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment
- Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
- Climb poles and work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet
- Other duties as required
**Job Qualifications and Skills**
- Holds a valid G license
- At least 3+ years of splicing experience
- Experience with Rogers and Bell fiber infrastructure considered an asset
- Able to complete the necessary training for working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required
- Able to lift up to 80 lbs
- must be able to travel (**this job requires daily traveling in Uxbridge and surrounding area)**:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
- Knowledge of fiber optic testing including but not limited to power meter, Ruby, OTDR
- Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, make-up of fiber optic cables, and manufacturer
- specifications to prevent damage of cables
- Knowledge of various manufacturers OSP and ISP splice enclosures and termination panels
- Knowledge of basic telecom outside plant construction practices and fiber network design
- Knowledge of basic public right of way and inside plant safety measures
- Knowledge of data center security processes and adhere to the measures they put in place
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and make good sound decisions
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract
