**POSITION: Full-Time Elder/Knowledge Keeper in Residence October 2024-June 27, 2025**

**LOCATION: various schools throughout BRSD**

**Intent**:The Elder/Knowledge Keeper in Residence provides cultural mentorship, emotional support, and guidance to Indigenous students across multiple Battle River School Division (BRSD) schools. This role fosters students' well-being and personal growth by connecting them with Indigenous histories, traditions, and cultural practices. Through ceremonial leadership, land-based learning, and direct student engagement, the Elder/Knowledge Keeper creates a safe, supportive environment where students can explore their cultural identity, develop life skills, and strengthen their connection to community and tradition. This position will work in tandem with the Indigenous Support Worker.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Cultural Mentorship and Support**: Offer one-on-one and small group mentorship to Indigenous students, providing emotional support and guidance through Indigenous ways of knowing, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being.
- **Ceremonial Leadership**: Lead cultural practices and ceremonies such as Pipe Ceremonies and talking circles, providing students access to traditional spiritual practices that promote healing, community, and personal growth.
- **Land-Based Learning**: Facilitate opportunities for students to engage in land-based learning, encouraging hands-on experiences with nature that reinforce cultural teachings and connections to the land.
- **Student Empowerment**: Create a safe, nurturing environment where Indigenous students can share their experiences, explore their cultural identity, and develop leadership and life skills.
- **Cultural Programming for Students**: Organize and lead student-centred workshops, events, and cultural activities that deepen their understanding of Indigenous traditions and practices.
- **Support for Student Well-being**: Provide guidance and cultural knowledge to help Indigenous students navigate personal and academic challenges, promoting mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

**Qualifications**:
Preference will be given to applicants with:

- A deep understanding of Indigenous histories, cultural practices, and traditional knowledge.
- Experience providing mentorship and guidance to Indigenous youth, grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and teachings.
- Familiarity with Indigenous mental health practices (asset).
- Experience with land-based learning and environmental education (asset).
- Ability to work independently across various schools, focusing on the well-being and growth of Indigenous students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, focusing on building strong relationships with students.
- Patience, flexibility, and a calm, supportive demeanour in working with youth.
- Fluency in Cree or other Indigenous languages (asset).
