Coaldale, Canada Coyote Flats Charolais Full time

Coyote Flats Charolais is looking for a full-time Pen rider. We are located 14 km east of Coaldale and 10 km north of the McCains plant. Coyote Flats Charolais is a family owned 6000 head finishing feedlot, pure bred Charolais breeding program and a on-farm butcher shop. For this position previous Feedlot/cattle experience is preferred, but more importantly we are looking for someone with a strong work ethic who fits in well with the excellent team we have in place. On the job training will be provided as needed.

A Pen Checker maintains the health and welfare of cattle, processes incoming and outgoing cattle, performs disease and pest prevention activities, moves cattle from one location to another in the yard, separates and sorts cattle, and operates farm equipment, tools, and machinery. Pen Checkers may work on foot or ride a horse.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and codes of practice
- Display commitment to the Health and Safety Program
- Utilize low stress cattle handling techniques
- Ship, receive and process cattle according to specified protocols and preventative health measures
- Monitor and assess the physical condition and health of cattle
- Work to treat and prevent sick cattle
- Monitor environmental and pen conditions
- Assist veterinarians as required and directed
- Identify death losses, record and report appropriately
- Operate computers using Fusion software to keep appropriate records of cattle and care provided
- Communicate with the rest of the feedlot team to ensure the cattle are well cared for and daily tasks are accomplished
- Operate and maintain equipment, tools and machinery as required
- Perform other miscellaneous farm and maintenance tasks as required

**SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS**
- Previous farm, feedlot and/or livestock experience
- Experience operating equipment is an asset, but not required
- Valid Driver’s License
- Basic Computer skills
- Fluent in English
- Willingness to learn, organized, good time management skills
- Reliable, dependable and committed
- Great team player and strong communication skills
- Good physical health
- Flexibility - Standard shift is 10 hours but may run longer or shorter according to number of cattle and season

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $22-$26 per hour depending on experience

Expected hours: No less than 50 per week

Schedule:

- Typical 10 hour shifts - variable depending on weather and season
- Weekend work is on a shift rotation typically looking like 12 days on 2 days off depending on season, some negotiations can be made.

Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 70 per week
