Outreach Mobile Medical Unit Driver

Mission Community Services Society is seeking an Outreach Driver for our new Medical Mobile Unit. The Driver will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe transportation of our medical mobile unit to various locations within the community. This position requires excellent driving skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to provide exceptional service to our clients. The driver will work closely with the medical staff and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the mobile unit and provide support during outreach programs.
**What you’ll do**
- Safely transport the medical mobile unit to and from various locations, adhering to traffic regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular inspections of the mobile unit before and after each trip to ensure its operational readiness and report any maintenance or repair needs.
- Assist medical staff in setting up and dismantling equipment at outreach locations, ensuring a safe and organized environment for medical services.
- Assist medical staff during medical outreach programs, as directed.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle mileage, maintenance, and fuel consumption.
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, clients, and other team members to ensure smooth operation of the mobile unit.
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including proper handling and disposal of medical waste, as required.
- Respond to any emergencies or incidents that may arise during transportation or medical outreach programs and help as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized mobile unit, ensuring all supplies are properly stocked and secured.
- Build relationships and maintain connections with associated community agencies, health/social services, and organizations.
- Maintain accurate records to ensure that accurate reports and statistics are maintained and submitted.
- Work as part of the M.C.S.S. team within the context of our Values, Mission, and Goals. Maintain a current knowledge of, and comply with, all organizational policy and procedures.
- Connect with those at risk of being homeless or who are homeless and assess their suitability for available programs.
- Meet with clients and access their suitability versus program goals. Make referrals to other programs, agencies and / or community resources where appropriate.
- Provide support to clients to aid them in adapting to and maintaining a life off the streets by keeping regular contact and monitoring their well-being.
- Directly assist clients with activities of daily living or coordinate with other services to ensure adequate assistance is provided. Provide support and advocacy for clients to maintain tenancy.
**What you bring**
- Diploma in a related human/social service field plus a minimum of two years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Experience driving a trailer/bus/RV or similar vehicle.
- Familiarity with local streets, neighborhoods, and routes
- Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Mandt System, or similar
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Successful completion of a criminal record check is required.
This position is Full-Time Wednesday thru Sunday (until April 2024 with possibility of extension) and the hours are 12 noon to 7:30 pm. Please note that some scheduling flexibility is required in order to attend special events with the mobile medical unit.
This is a union position (BCGEU) and the starting wage is $25.05 per hour.
