Volunteer Board Member

Board meetings take place monthly in the evening and are held primarily through Zoom with some in-person events at our St. Catharines office. Attendance at committee meetings is required (primarily Zoom). A typical month requires up to 10 hours of time.
The areas of expertise that YCA Board of Directors has prioritized for the 2023 recruitment season include:
- Public policy/government relations
- Healthcare
- Experience with the following provincial ministries: Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care, Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services, Ministry of Education
**Qualifications**

‑ Passion for supporting family caregivers
‑ Committed to improving the well-being of children and youth
**Responsibilities**
‑ Attend monthly Board and committee meetings
‑ Contribute to the development of strategic directions and a sustainable future
‑ Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and contractual obligations
‑ Participate in Board development opportunities, such as trainings and retreats
‑ Monitor the performance of and provide guidance and support to the Executive Director
**About The Young Caregivers Association**
Established in 2003, the YCA has transformed the lives of young caregivers, the unseen population of family caregivers. We are the first organization and registered charity in Canada dedicated to supporting young caregivers and their families who live in rural and urban communities, while building awareness across Canada.
Our vision is a Canada where Young Caregivers and their families are recognized, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
Young caregivers are children, youth, and young adults ages 5 to 25 who provide care for a family member due to a chronic illness, disability, mental health concern, substance misuse, or socioeconomic factor (e.g., a language barrier). Young Caregivers help their family members in various ways by caring for their siblings or providing personal, emotional, or financial support.
We collaborate with community partners to bring specialized programs and expertise to professionals and organizations across Canada, giving them the tools that they need to positively impact children, youth, and young adults.
