Position Summary:
The Computational and Data Systems Initiative (CDSI) aims to connect, complement, and amplify the rich ecosystem of McGill investments at the nexus where computing, data, and systems meet - particularly around AI and data science.

As part of its mission, CDSI offers workshops on topics related to programming languages, data science, machine learning, natural language processing, cluster computing, and advanced statistical methods. Workshops are 2h or 3h long during the Fall and Winter terms. In the summer, we offer week-long camps. CDSI is looking for currently registered undergraduate or graduate McGill Students to become Learning Assistants for these workshops, to provide technical support to one of more faculty members and instructors for person and/or remote delivery, and includes but is not limited to course mechanics, course content and technical support for faculty and students.

Duties- Act as technical facilitator in person and/or remote delivery, particularly in large workshops.- Provide students basic technical support during workshops.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities- To be eligible for this job, you must have access to a computer, webcam, and microphone- Strong knowledge of one or multiple programming software: Python, R, Matlab, Stata, SPSS- Strong written and oral communication skills. Good command of computer operating systems (Linux, Mac, Windows) is an asset.- Must be willing to learn recent technologies/software- Organization and time management skills- Proofreading skills- Effective communication skills- Ability to support multiple instructors- Familiarity with web conferencing technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco WebEx)- Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
