BORN is seeking a Scientific Manager to lead their data analytic and scientific team of epidemiologists and data analysts. The Scientific Manager drives our response to research, analytics and information requests, delivers on our research strategy, enables knowledge exchange, and oversees the integration, collection and distribution of key datasets and reports. BORN’s Mission includes being an authoritative source of accurate, trusted and timely information to monitor, evaluate and plan for the best possible beginnings for life-long health while providing scientific leadership for Ontario’s maternal, child and youth health system through the support of research and innovation.

Key to delivering on this is the Scientific Manager, responsible for the BORN data analytic and scientific teams, including analysts, epidemiologists, research assistants, graduate students and research coordinators. The team is responsible for the triage of data requests, both routine and for research, as well as the distribution of these datasets and reports... The Manager works in partnership with other members of the BORN Leadership and Executive Teams to support strategic and operational planning for BORN and to address issues of privacy and data quality. The Manager develops and maintains key partnerships with data requestors, researchers, health system planners and funders. The Manager applies in-depth, expert, maternal-child clinical and research knowledge to guide the work of the team. The Manager is also responsible for overseeing the development of budgets, and for managing human resources including hiring, termination and managing the performance of staff as necessary.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Manage and facilitate the activities of the BORN Data and Science Team
- Oversee team activities and functions relating to recruitment, interviewing, hiring, supervising and completing performance appraisals for scientific team members.
- Identify and provide team training, as required.
- Identify and manage the allocation of human, material and budgetary resources to ensure efficient and effective productivity and outcome of the scientific team.
- In collaboration with the Privacy Officer, develops and implements policies and procedures around data management, access and sharing.
- Follow all Registry policies and procedures for the use and disclosure of personal health information contained in the BORN registry
- Provide advice, recommendations and support to the portfolio team and key stakeholders related to use of maternal-child data for reporting and research
- Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Participate as a key member of the BORN Management Team
- Contribute to overall decision making and as a key member of the BORN Management Team.
- Provide recommendations to support strategic planning and setting short and long term goals for BORN.
- Provide scientific information and analysis of surveillance data to the BORN Management Team
- Exemplify and advance BORN's health equity journey to promote equity, diversity, inclusion, justice, and indigeneity within BORN, its data holdings, and its stakeholder relations for the betterment of all pregnant and birthing people in Ontario.

Develop and facilitate recommendations to enhance and improve maternal-child care in Ontario
