**THE ROLE**

**Let’s work together to keep our community safe** The Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the permanent full-time position of **Bylaw Officer**. The Bylaw Officer contributes to the effective operation of the Fort McKay Community Protective Services program, primarily through identifying, investigating, mediating, and resolving bylaw violations according to enforcement policies adopted by FMFN Chief and Council. FMFN Bylaw Officers help protect our community, residents and the Nation’s lands and property. They provide proactive safety education and ensure compliance with our bylaws and legislation. This is a permanent full-time position, located in Fort McKay, AB and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly and will include a mix of day shifts and night shifts.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:_
- Respond to public inquiries and investigate complaints of possible bylaw violations.
- Carries out patrols, educates and issues warnings, violation tickets and orders when appropriate
- Prepare reports and makes recommendations respecting possible courses of action.
- Conduct animal control duties such as patrolling, apprehending, and kenneling lost, surrendered, or aggressive animals.
- Provide basic care for animals in the care of the Fort McKay First Nation (ie. Food, water etc.).
- Issue animal registrations for community members and maintain active registration leger.
- Perform field inspections for various departments regarding issues such as unsightly premises, dog violations, land use and zoning infractions, burning regulations, derelict vehicles, noise, garbage, parking, and traffic violations in accordance with Fort McKay First Nation Bylaws.
- Maintain electronic documentation and file on each activity ensuring that all paperwork necessary for effective bylaw enforcement is completed within stipulated timelines.
- Draft correspondence to public and other agencies and attend court hearings as required.
- Responds to technical and public inquiries regarding interpretation of Fort McKay First Nation bylaws and any applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Liaises with various government agencies and the RCMP, ensuring affected parties are aware of issues falling within their jurisdiction.
- Deal with confidential and sensitive information in accordance with First Nation policies, procedures, and best practice standards.
- Assist Park Rangers and Park Ranger Peace Officers with projects or tasks.
- Performs other related duties, as required.

**KEY REQUIREMENTS**
- High School Diploma supplemented with a Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills course or equivalent.
- Previous law enforcement experience from a recognized law enforcement agency is an asset.
- Must be willing and able to attain Community Peace Officer II (CPO II) appointment.
- Must obtain Solicitor General within one (1) year from the date of hire.
- Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability Security clearance
- Completion of a use of force training course and re-certification as required.
- Willingness to carry and use officer protective equipment (ie. Baton, OC Spray, handcuffs etc) in accordance with the Fort McKay First Nation Bylaw Enforcement Officer Bylaw.
- For future succession opportunities must be able to pass a Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) Test
- Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract Required
- Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
