**Compensation**: As independently contracted service providers, Victoria Conservatory of Music Faculty set their hourly studio rate in consultation with their respective department head, and according to the established Conservatory Tuition / Instructor Fee grid. Hourly compensation rates currently range from $39.60 - $59.20/hour.

Meet Daniel Lapp Artistic Director of the Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music. Daniel is a world-renowned singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, teacher, archivist, band leader, sideman, producer, promoter and - no kidding - the list goes on. And like the true-blue Canadian he is, Daniel does it all with trademark energy and warmth. As a fiddler, jazz trumpeter and singer/songwriter, Daniel Lapp has played on over 100 albums and performed across Canada, United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Finland and Germany with some of the world’s most renowned Folk and Jazz musicians. Daniel is the winner of the B.C. Fiddle Championship and has appeared as a soloist with the CBC Chamber Orchestra as well as the Prince George, Victoria, and Vancouver Symphonies. A legendary force in Canada’s fiddle scene, in addition to his outstanding performing, Daniel has been musical mentor to hundreds of students—many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the music industry.

As a member of a diverse and vibrant community of artist mentors within the Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music at the Victoria Conservatory, this part-time faculty position offers the incumbent the freedom to balance teaching one-on-one fiddle lessons to students of all ages, while pursuing a professional career as performer and/or recording artist on the beautiful west coast of Canada. The instructor guides their students as they delve deeper into fiddle music, while becoming well-rounded violin players with solid technique and musicianship. Together with other fiddle colleagues at the Conservatory, the instructor participates in various activities that contribute to the overall culture of fiddling on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Strengths and Skills
- A deep understanding of a variety of folk fiddle styles with the ability to accurately teach and convey the language of various folk fiddle music traditions both aurally and using music.
- A community minded musician, open to collaboration within the culture of fiddle music at the Conservatory.
- Comfortable teaching students of any age (Elementary/Middle/High school children through to youth and adults of all ages).

Qualifications and Requirements
- A thorough knowledge of violin performance and pedagogy, with demonstrated success teaching traditional violin performance techniques within the context of folk fiddle music.
- At least five years of lived experience as a performing fiddler artist in the folk music scene.
- Available to teach at the Conservatory’s main Victoria location and at the Langford/Westhills location.
