Lands Management Assistant

**What you offer**
- Working towards or completion of a post-secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resources, Ecosystem or Land Management, or Outdoor Recreation studies with a related experience.
- Familiarity and understanding of best practices for land management, trail design and maintenance, and visitor management.
- Understanding of the impacts of climate change and invasive species on natural heritage systems.
- Experience and comfort working outdoors in natural spaces in a variety of weather conditions.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written) and strong customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Self-motivated, with a positive attitude towards the responsibilities and duties of the position.
- Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.
- Valid Class G driver’s license required.
- Experience with GIS (ArcView), MS Office Suite products including Access and PowerPoint would be an asset.
**What you will do**
Assisting Conservation Lands staff with:
- Land management activities including field data collection, property, trail and other infrastructure assessment, and wildlife monitoring.
- Administrative activities including meeting planning and minutes, document management, digitization and filing, research, and data entry.
- Invasive species mapping and management including cutting and pulling.
- Assisting with implementation of the Conservation Authority’s Signage Strategy.
- Assisting with plan implementation and data analysis.
- Working with community volunteers on conservation area initiatives including trail maintenance and development, garbage clean-up, and other property improvements.
Assisting Greenspace and Forestry Services staff with:
- Management and maintenance of Conservation Areas including hazard tree removal, trail maintenance and development, and other property maintenance activities.
Performing other related duties as assigned by the Director, Conservation Lands.
**Start Date**:April 22, 2024
**Hours of work**:8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend and evening work if required.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months
**Salary**: $18.75-$23.44 per hour
