Halifax Independent School is a child-centred space emphasizing strong relationships and active, experiential learning. We are located in Halifax’s west end, and have over 180 students from pre-primary to grade 9.

HIS offers an engaging, friendly, and supportive work environment, with some flexibility regarding hours, and opportunities for creativity and incorporating personal interests.

We are seeking an energetic, personable lead for our Extracurricular Childcare Programmes, Afterschool and Lunch Monitoring. Reporting to the administrative team, you will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the children in Halifax Independent School during lunch, after school, in-service and day camp programs.

**Responsibilities**:

- **1. Lunchtime and Afterschool Supervision**_. In addition to direct supervision of children (age 5-15), you will work directly with, and provide supervision for, childcare staff.
- **2. Program Planning and Delivery**_. Under the direction of the admin team you will:

- Plan and implement an Afterschool programme that includes engaging multi-age activities (age 5-12).
- Plan and execute engaging multi-age programming of day camps including stand-alone single day events and week-long theme-based camps.

**Experience and Qualifications**:

- Experience working with youth - as a Camp Leader, in Child Care, After School, or Youth programs.
- Familiarity working with Google Apps (Sheets and Docs), considered an asset.
- Experience in scheduling and training of staff, considered an asset.

**Background Screening and Qualifications**:
All staff are required to have/acquire the background checks below. Existing search results are acceptable if issued within the last 12 months.
- Child Abuse Registry check
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

First Aid Certification is required (can be obtained after hiring).

**Schedule**:
On-site requirements are Monday to Friday; No Weekends
- Regular school day (through to mid-June): 11:30-5:30
- In-service days (c. 4 days/yr) and Funshine camps (c.7-8 wks/yr, March Break, June/July): Flexible, 6-8 hour shift between 8:00-5:30

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: $16.00-$17.50 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
