**Night Support Staff (2 positions available)**
**Pos. 1: 36 hours per week**
**Pos. 2: 12 hours per week**
**Reporting to: Program Coordinator**
**Position Summary**
The **Emergency Overnight Shelter - Night Support Staff** position assists and cares for those seeking overnight shelter during the winter months.
**Primary Responsibilities**
- Intervening and de-escalating crisis situations as they occur
- Timely completion of case notes, safety planning, and Critical Incidents
- Attending required training opportunities within the appropriate timeframe
- Admitting clients; checking them in and out of the program according to designated intake procedures; and program facilitation
- Recording client statistics for reporting purposes
- Nightly community wellness checks
- Nightly door checks
- Hourly bed checks
- Maintain effective communication with clients and supervisor (including communication book)
- Assess and assist with client personal needs and connect them to necessary resources (ex: hygiene, nutrition, etc.)
- Monitor client activities and work cooperatively with other staff and clients
- Clean all areas as regularly and assist with inventory control
- Follow nightly duties as stated within the procedures
**Supervision**
You will be responsible for the supervision of clients, but you are not required to do anything for clients they can do themselves.
**Qualifications**
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Physically capable of performing tasks and duties
- Work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to handle potential conflict situations, deal with stressful situations and react with good judgment
- Must be very flexible and able to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks
- Diplomacy and tactfulness in dealing with situations that involve misinformation, miscommunication, and conflict between clients
- Social Services education with recent and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn database systems
- Concise and clear communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills
- Respects individuals and maintains confidentiality
- ACCHS will pay for the adequate training required for this role if necessary, but having Up-to-date Standard First Aid and Level C CPR upon hire would be considered an asset
- Ability to provide a clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check
- Experience or in-depth understanding of Harm Reduction and Trauma Informed Practice is considered an asset
**Experience**
- Previous experience working in a shelter environment or with vulnerable people is considered an asset.
**Other Considerations**
- This position requires you to work 12 hour over-night shifts.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 5 months
Pay: $18.00-$21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12 - 36 per week
