**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Occupational Health and Safety**
- Report all incidents, accidents and/or hazards,
- Participate and/or cooperate with the JHSC to improve safety,
- Wear personal protective equipment as required,
- Adhere to lockout procedures,
- Perform housekeeping activities as required,
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA),
- Comply with the Workplace Safety Insurance Act (WSI Act),
- Comply with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and
- Comply with Health and Safety rules, policies and procedures of the Ram Iron & Metal Inc.

**Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) “Duties of Workers” - Section**
**28**
- _ A worker shall,_
- _ Work in compliance with the provisions of this Act and the regulations;_
- _ Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the worker’s employer requires to be used or worn;_
- _ Report to his or her employer or Supervisor the absence or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker; and_
- _ Report to his or her employer or Supervisor any contravention of this Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which her or she knows._
- _ No worker shall,_
- _ Remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the regulations or by his or her employer, without providing an adequate temporary protective device and when the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately._
- _ Use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself, herself or any other worker._
- _ Engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct._
- A worker is not required to participate in a prescribed medical surveillance program unless the worker consents to do so. R.S.O. 1990, c. 0.1, s. 28._

**Workplace Safety and Insurance Act - Part V, section 40 (2)**
- _ The worker shall co-operate in his or her early and safe return to work by,_
- _ Contacting his or her employer as soon as possible after the injury occurs and maintaining communication throughout the period of the workers recovery and impairment,_
- _ Assisting the employer, as may be required or requested, to identify suitable employment that is available and consistent with the worker’s functional abilities and that, when possible, restores his or her pre-injury earnings,_
- _ Giving the board such information as the board may request concerning the worker’s return to work, and_
- _ Doing such other things as may be prescribed._

**Job Scope**:
**Quality Assurance**
- Know and understand the ISO 9001 Quality Policy and Objectives
- Report deficiencies in systems, facilities, machinery, equipment and/or tools immediately to your Supervisor,
- Report product damage/nonconformities to your Supervisor as required,
- Participate in quality assurance practices, and
- Participate and contribute to effective production efficiency.

**Environmental Health and Safety**
- Know and understand ISO 14001 Environmental Policy and Objectives
- Participate in regular housekeeping activities, and
- Report any environmental issues to your Supervisor (i.e. spills, contamination, etc).

**Employee Relations**
- Communicate with administrative, yard and supervisory staff as required,
- Perform compulsory overtime as necessary and in accordance with legislative requirements,
- Perform other duties as assigned by your Supervisor,
- Comply with the Personal Code of Conduct,
- Provide and or participate in training as required, and
- Comply with company rules, polices and procedures.

**Job Summary**

Heavy equipment operators control equipment by moving levers or foot pedals, operating switches or turning dials. Their job titles generally reflect the types of machines they operate (for example, loader, crane, etc.). However, one operator may operate several types of equipment.

**Job Requirements**
- Conduct a daily pre-inspection and operational check of the equipment and work area before the start of the shift, and before or after each break or lunch schedule, or more often if needed.
- Record pre-inspection results and submit weekly.
- Operate equipment in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
- Maintain the housekeeping of the equipment and work area.
- Perform daily greasing of equipment.
- Refuel equipment as needed.
