For over 60 years, United Gear has specialized in industrial gearbox refurbishment and enhancement. We manufacture and design gearing and other machined components to support mechanical project design and refurbishment. United Gear has set itself apart by providing the highest quality gearbox refurbishment services supporting Western Canada’s mining, pulp and paper services, port services, and wind power industries.

Our continued project expansion has increased our machining volume, requiring us to hire a Journeyperson Machinist with CNC and advanced manual skills in repair and new product machining. Once the successful incumbent is fully trained, the role will turn to an afternoon shift, ending between 11:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. depending on start-time.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Set up and run various manual and CNC lathes, mills, and drilling and tapping equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables.
- Document and report deviations from specifications and tolerances.
- Maintain personal inspection quality.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Maintain required paperwork and notations.

**Qualifications**:

- Journeyperson Machinist or 3rd year apprentice trade certification. Red seal certification is considered an asset.
- Experience with manual lathes, milling machines, engine lathes, drill presses, and CNC machines.
- Experience with measuring tools such as gauges, micrometers, and verniers.

- Ability to work efficiently and keep a high attention to detail while prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Self-starter, problem-solver, curious, and asks questions in order to learn and support continuous improvement.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and able to work both individually and in a team environment.
- Dependable and consistent in punctuality, attendance, and quality workmanship.

**Working Conditions**:

- General manufacturing shop specializing in industrial gearbox rebuilding.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Fast-paced environment requiring high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
