**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba, Price Faculty of Engineering is looking for an Indigenous Student Support Coordinator. This position will be responsible for providing a variety of supports to ENGAP studies. The Indigenous Student Support Coordinator will also work with a wide range of personal, family, and career issues that students presents.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER OR RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATIONS, MÉTIS, AND/OR INUIT).
- University Bachelor’s degree is required (preferably in social sciences or a helping profession.)
- Two years of directly related administrative experience required.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous peoples is required.
- Knowledge of holistic approach, adult education principles, and Indigenous learning styles required.
- Must be knowledgeable about Indigenous cultures, values and have working knowledge of cross-cultural issues faced by Indigenous Students.
- Advising/counselling experience is an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Highly developed interpersonal competencies and group process skills are essential.
- Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are required.
- Must be able to work in an environment that requires enthusiasm, self-motivation and flexibility.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.
- Must be able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and arrange own workload.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and using intermediate features associated with a Windows computer environment.
- Must have a genuine interest in helping students and the ability to work patiently with students.
- Strong work ethic and be willing to take initiative to solve problems and learn new tasks.
- Possess a positive attitude and the ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with faculty, support staff, students, and individuals external to the university required.
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality with respect to all communications and records is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Knowledge of University of Manitoba polices pertaining to students preferred.
