Position Summary
Support Worker duties for a group of approximately 147 community members to ensure that member’s self-identified goals for recovery and community integration are supported by appropriate services and practices, consistent with the values of self-determination/choice and harm reduction. The Support Worker provides a range of supports for chronically homeless individuals living in the community, many of whom have concurrent mental health diagnosis, substance use and /or physical health issues. Using a strengths-based model, the Support Worker participates with tenants and Service Plan Coordinators in the development and implementation of service plans, including: assessment; goal setting, achievement and review; resource acquisition; and monitoring in the areas of daily living, financial, vocational/educational, social supports, health, harm reduction, culture, recovery and leisure/recreational supports. The Support Worker works closely and collaboratively with other direct service staff, family and external service providers, advocating for access and rights as needed. The Support Worker also provides daily supports including medication administration, building security, crisis intervention, health and recreational groups and general problem solving.

Program Summary
The Marguerite Ford Apartments RainCity Housing Team provides a range of supports, advocacy, cultural knowledge and community involvement to tenants of Marguerite Ford Apartments, low income people who also might be coping with the realities of recent homelessness, substance use, and physical and mental health concerns. The project is a partnership with the Sanford Housing Society which acts as the MFA property manager. There are147 suites, bachelor and one bedroom, governed by the Residential Tenancy Act.
Recognizing the varied ways community members who will reside at MFA are excluded systemically from full participation in our society; positions will be of varied specialties at MFA, while still acknowledging that many members will also require one on one support. The specializations are meant to address specific areas that affect member’s ability to belong, thrive and be active and accountable in our community. Specific specializations will share knowledge between all team members to more successfully address exclusion and encourage participation of members.
QUALIFICATIONS
Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering and lived experience of mental illness / addiction/ homelessness; Minimum education and experience includes:
- A Diploma in community social services or conflict resolution
- Two years of recent, related work experience with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness and/or social services.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
