We are actively seeking a **General Labourer/Material Handler** to join our team. The role of the General Labourer/Material Handler is essential in facilitating the manufacturing process by performing grinding tasks, assisting in product fabrication, effectively handling materials, and ensuring safe and efficient delivery of parts. Adherence to instructions is critical for maintaining product quality and meeting delivery timelines. This position requires familiarity with DCBM product categories (Custom, OEM, and Standard) and active participation in promoting exceptional communication, continuous knowledge sharing, and collaborative teamwork to achieve manufacturing goals while upholding confidentiality and quality standards.
The General Labourer/Material Handler will also support lead hands and related functions by reporting, interacting, and seeking necessary approvals.
**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Collaborate in the fabrication process as required.
- Proficiently use a range of general shop tools, including wrenches, drills, grinders, and polishers.
- Assist in shipping and receiving operations through effective material handling.
- Uphold cleanliness through janitorial responsibilities in assigned areas, such as the shop, lunchrooms, and washrooms.
- Safely lift and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Contribute to the assembly of shipping skids for efficient transportation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with safety standards.
- Adhere to all job-specific processes and safety policies consistently.
- Play an active role in promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all team members.
- Immediately report any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to Management.
- Other duties (as assigned).
**Requirements**:
- Successful completion of secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid Driver's license meeting DCBM's insurable standards and vehicle policy.
- 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Preferred experience in metal fabrication and grinding metal.
- Previous forklift experience is advantageous.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS Regulations.
- Proficient in precise and competent metal grinding.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding.
- Manual dexterity and skill.
- Competent in using measuring devices, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaborate within a dynamic team environment.
**Working Conditions**
- Works in a production environment where health and safety hazards and risk of injury are always present (temperature, noise, chemicals, machinery, moving vehicles).
- Usually works a standard forty to forty-four hour work week.
- May be required to work some overtime hours to meet production obligations during specific periods of the business cycle, tight deadlines, and stressful conditions at times.
- Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and multiple tasks daily.
- May deal with conflict and employee relations issues causing stress at times.
- Attention to detail and visual concentration required which may cause mental and physical strain.
- Spends a frequent amount of time standing and walking daily.
- Must be able to bend at the waist and reach from the shoulders frequently.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
