**POSITION TITLE**: Direct Support Professional

**HOURS**:40 hours per week

**SALARY**: $31.76

**TYPE OF ADVERTISEMENT**:Contract

**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**:
EDUCATION:

- DSW Diploma, successful completion of the DSW Apprenticeship program, CYW Diploma, BA in a related field, or proven equivalency by an accredited college or university

**OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Current First Aid, CPR, CPI, Musculoskeletal Disorder Prevention and WHMIS
- Valid G class driver’s license
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check completed within 12 months
- Valid driver's abstract completed within 3 months

**EXPERIENCE**:
Case management experience essential
- Experience in developing and facilitating Individual Support Plans in cooperation with Support Networks using a Person-Centered Approach
- Experience in supporting people with an intellectual disability and behavioural challenges
- Experience in fulfilling a leadership role
- Previous experience working with families in the planning and delivery of supports
- Demonstrated experience in utilizing computers and the AIMS database
- Demonstrated experience in utilizing NVCI (CPI) techniques for de-escalation
- Experience in administering and managing medications
- Experience in counselling, behavioural interventions, conflict resolution, money management and interpersonal skill development
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the area of augmentative communication systems

**ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE**:

- Demonstrated ability to follow and create menu plans
- Ability to complete basic household duties including cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
- Ability and willingness to participate in activities that reflect individualized interests
- Ability to show innovative and progressive attitude with a commitment to the enhancement of Personal Outcome Measures
- Proven ability to create unique opportunities for people who are deaf or hearing impaired
- Ability to demonstrate success in adapting to a variety of people, situations and environments
- Demonstrated ability to be a highly motivated, creative and flexible person
- Able to commit to support people to become fully participating members of their community
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks in a demanding environment
- Knowledge of Employee responsibilities in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Proven ability to present an image of professionalism and have a positive impact when communicating
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to problem solve & make decisive decisions
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment

**ASSET QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Applied CPI
- Augmentative Communication Training
- Case Management
