Community Support Worker

Do you have strong communication skills, and experience in human/social services and conflict resolution? The Mustard Seed is seeking a Support Worker to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. The Support Worker at The Mustard Seed provides a safe and supportive environment to all clients.
As a member of the Community Impact Centre Team, this support worker will have a broad working knowledge of the Community Impact Centre in the Edmonton area. This position will support the activities of the Community Impact Centre Team. Reporting to the Community Impact Centre Manager, the Relief Support Worker is a front-line staff member that responds to the needs of The Mustard Seed community on an ongoing basis.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Fulfill the mission and values of The Mustard Seed and maintain a high level of professionalism, respect and gratitude with all staff, donors, volunteers, community members and visitors.
- Ensure services are delivered in a respectful and safe environment while enforcing facilities rules, expected code of conduct, and building cleanliness at all TMS facilities.
- Model healthy relationships with community participants and volunteers by listening, counseling, praying, and referring.
- Communicate issues and concerns to supervisors in a proactive respectful manner.
- Maintain specific records, stats and incident reports on logbooks and computer files and maintain proper radio communication at TMS facilities.
- Brief, de-brief and pray with both staff and volunteer groups when necessary.
- Ensure daily tidiness and cleanliness of work area.
- Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, SafeTALK, Nonviolence) and attend monthly general meetings and support meetings with supervisor.
- Other duties and site related duties may be assigned when required.
**SPECIFIC LOCATION**
- Community Impact Centre - Edmonton.
- Work directly with clients in the Community Impact Centre by providing care and support as needed.
- Work closely with Community Impact Centre Workers to provide critical information on client care and support through accurate ETO data input and maintenance of client records.
- Maintain the safety and security of the Community Impact Centre environment.
- Respond to crises in a professional, calm, and supportive manner.
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, as buildings are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Experience working within the culture of the inner city and/or with the less fortunate.
- A demonstrated passion to be involved in ending homelessness in Alberta is essential.
- Experience working in a volunteer-based organization is considered an asset.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and conflict resolution skills.
- A proactive and self-starter individual.
- A team player, who works collaboratively and has a ‘teachable spirit’.
- Good knowledge of data base entry (ETO, MS Word and Excel) is required.
- Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team.
- Integrity, discretion, and tact dealing with confidential matters.
- Knowledge of mental illness and addictions is an asset.
- Current Standard First Aid certification is strongly desired.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- This is a relief casual position and hours will vary from week to week - no guaranteed minimum hours but staff are expected to be available for at least three shifts a month.
- Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, overnight and stat holidays. Shifts are often required at short notice.
- The position will require ongoing compassionate care, frequent manual labor, conflict resolution and organizational ability while working directly with risk population in life recovery.
- This position is often fast-paced and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve.
- Moderate physical effort with considerable periods of standing, walking and siting, indoors and outdoors.
- Navigating interactions with challenging clients who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive.
**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
