Under the supervision of the Body Shop Vehicle Systems Supervisor and the direction of the Painter-in Charge, the Body Shop Painter is responsible for preparing and spray-painting transit buses, transit support vehicles, and transit related equipment.

**As the **_Painter (Body Shop)_** **you will**:

- Remove and replace trim and hardware from surfaces to be painted.
- Remove layers of sub-coating using appropriate methods.
- Mix paint, blend and match colours.
- Prepare metal, fibreglass and plastic surfaces for paint by spot filling and sanding.
- Mask and tape for multi-tone work or to protect areas that do not require painting.
- Perform final checks to ensure that quality standards are met before the vehicle or equipment is returned to service.
- Prepare, clean and maintain spray equipment, spray booths and other paint shop related equipment.
- Consult and interpret technical manuals, bulletins, safety documentation and WHMIS documentation to endure that refinishing products are safely applied in the correct sequence, ensuring chemical compatibility, adhesion and durability.
- Remain current with updates in technical and safety procedures, tools materials, paints and associated chemicals.
- Determine workplace hazards and perform duties taking appropriate measures to protect themselves and co-workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- High School or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess a Journeyman Auto Body - Painter certificate recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
- Demonstrated work experience as a motor vehicle refinisher.
- Must have the ability to accurately perform precise work that requires attention to detail.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with a minimum of direct supervision, prioritizing work efficiently, ensuring all work requirements are completed appropriately and deadlines are met.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, as well as understand and follow verbal and written instructions and express ideas succinctly.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Must be familiar with and adhere to safe workplace practices and requirements.
- Must have the necessary skills and knowledge to use required hand tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment required.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to the requirements of Respectful Workplace Standard.

**Conditions of employment**:

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License in good standing and able to obtain a Class 2 license with in-house training within 2 months.
- Must be physically capable of performing the routine manual labour components of the position, which may include but are not limited to: working at high levels from ladders, scaffolds and mobile work platforms, exposure to dust, noise, extreme temperature/weather conditions and diesel exhaust fumes.
- Must have the ability to successfully complete ongoing training in the operation of specialized tools and equipment, work procedures, materials, safety and administrative policies required in the position within specified timeframes.
