**SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR (FULL-TIME)**

**WAGE**: $77,000.00/ANNUALLY

The school mental health counsellor’s primary responsibility is designing, developing, and delivering mental health support to Migisi Sahgaigan School. This position is expected to encourage and support the use of community-based mental health services that use holistic and culturally appropriate methods. This position supports the needs of students and provides 1-to-1 counselling services. They also provide other positive mental health programs and strategies to support a positive school climate.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Design and develop programming to ensure a well-balanced program cognizant of the overall goals and objectives of Migisi Sahgaigan School
- Developing and implementing plans of care and ensuring follow-up is completed
- Coordinating and facilitating access to traditional healing and other cultural programming incorporating natural surroundings in the program development
- Establish, coordinate and maintain working relationships with community service groups
- Participate and enhance community development with a focus on children and youth mental health
- Participate in internal and external education initiatives
- Be qualified to meet with students individually to support mental health needs.
- Maintain student records in partnership with other school staff
- Conform to ethical standards of practice and to exercise confidentiality at all times
- Ensure adequate care for all materials and resources provided for the program

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Minimum diploma in the social service field, such as Mental Health or Social work, with at least one-year recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Experience working with Aboriginal Youth
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, values and beliefs
- Knowledge of Aboriginal child/youth mental health issues
- Knowledge of appropriate outdoor sports and programming.
- Must be computer and social media literate.
