**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Public Health Manager, Healthy Communities, the Youth Engagement Coordinator, Health Promoting Schools is responsible for embedding and supporting the implementation of the UpLift project within the Health Promoting Schools (HPS) model and plans within the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will work closely with other members of the Healthy Communities Team to support schools and school communities to implement local HPS action plans. The focus of the position is at the school level where the Youth Engagement Coordinator will engage students as change agents and leaders to improve student health and well-being and build the capacity of adults to support youth engagement in the implementation of HPS. The position requires a strong background in youth engagement, health promotion, understanding of comprehensive school health, community development, knowledge of the school system and a solid track record in building partnerships.

**About You**:

- Baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Education, Community Youth Development, or other relevant field with relevant experience.
- Masters’ degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years related job experience.
- Experience in working with youth including developing and implementing youth engagement, peer mentoring, and knowledge and skills building strategies.
- Experience in planning, development, and evaluation of health promotion policies and programs.
- Demonstrated understanding of a population health and health promoting schools approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders using a variety of methods.
- Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support HPS planning and work.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong focus on school settings.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to deal with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated judgment, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with schools and communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community development and mobilization.
- Demonstrated knowledge in organization and behavior change and social movement theory, theories of school change, critical analysis, strategic framing.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
- Exceptional time management and priority setting skills.
- Travel will be required for this community-based position

**Hours**:

- Long assignment full-time position; 70 hours biweekly
- Beginning January 2024 (approx. 6 month term)

**Compensation and Incentives**:
$31.20 - $39.40 hourly
