The Interim Lands Manager is responsible for organizing and managing the administration, support systems and activities that facilitate the effective operation of the Tsawout Lands Department. The position is also responsible for overseeing, directing, supervising, coordinating and evaluating the Lands Department, and for performing the duties and responsibilities required of the Interim Manager under the Land Code and the Tsawout First Nation law. The Interim Lands Manager manages the implementation of department strategies, the operations of the work unit, including organization structure, and manages the department budget.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Degree or diploma in planning, land administration, land and resource management or public administration, or a relevant degree and five years of experience in one or more of these areas, or
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience,
- Minimum of 5 years experience developing and implementing strategic plans, policy or bylaw development, land or resource planning, and community consultation and facilitation processes,
- Minimum 2 years managing, directing and leading employees,
- Experience developing, managing, and controlling operating budgets,
- Experience liaising with various provincial and federal regulatory agencies,
- Experience working within a First Nations community preferred,
- Experience working with the First Nations Land Management Act an asset,
- Valid BC driver’s license.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Thorough knowledge of land registration and land administration principles and procedures;
- Thorough knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation, regulations and acts pertaining to the real estate management environment;
- Sound knowledge of the First Nations Land Management Act and the Tsawout Land Code;
- Working knowledge of planning, zoning and related community development activities and principles.
- Working knowledge of the culture, protocol and traditions of Aboriginal people to ensure respect, diplomacy and act to honour established and new relationships;
- Advanced critical thinking, and organizational and problem solving skills;
- Sound written and verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss real estate related issues in a language suitable to the audience;
- Ability to lead by example, demonstrating leadership, client service attitudes, integrity, creativity and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships; and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate programs/services considering client needs, service delivery inter-relationships and service potential;
- Ability to provide leadership and manage staff collaboratively, in a team environment, utilizing effective team-building, communication and management techniques;
- Ability to interpret Chief and Council direction and incorporate into operations policies and procedures;
- Ability to deal with stressful or conflict situations and to react quickly with good judgment, diplomacy and tact;
- Ability to work independently with limited direction, act on own initiative, set own priorities and meet tight or changing deadlines;
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues.
- Ability to align departmental capacity with the Nation’s strategic goals and objectives;
- Ability to delegate responsibility and authority as appropriate;
- Ability to function effectively as part of a management team.
