Overview:
The Director of Music is responsible for all aspects of the Music Ministry within the Church. This Ministry will complement the spiritual development of the congregation by leading, teaching and encouraging music in the day-to-day activities within the Church.

This position will collaborate closely with the Minister and Worship, Music & Membership Committee. The contract for the Director of Music is administered by the Ministry and Personnel Committee of the Church.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide direction and collaborate with the Church organist
- Work with the Minister to plan the musical aspect of worship services including the selection of hymns, anthems and special music pieces
- Prepare and plan music for regular Church services and provide music leadership during the service
- Direct the Church choir. Lead choir rehearsals, generally once per week, and direct the choir during worship services
- Prepare the choir and/or soloists to perform at least one piece of “special music” for most church services
- Encourage members of the congregation to participate in the music ministry by recruiting and organizing choir members, instrumentalists and vocalists
- In addition to regular services, prepare and provide appropriate music for special and/or extra services such as Christmas and Easter
- Be available, if required, to provide music for additional services such as weddings and funerals
- Arrange for musical talent on Sundays when the choir is not in session
- Ensure that the music library of the church is organized and maintained. With the approval of the Church Council, purchase new material as required. Adhere to the music budget and all copyright restrictions including reporting usage of copyrighted materials
- Arrange for a substitute director when not able to attend regular service
- Attend Music, Worship and Membership Committee meetings

**Qualifications**:

- Experience in choral music leadership (a broad range of musical knowledge and ability considered assets)
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities along with the talent to work with and inspire volunteers
- Enthusiastic, organized, and excellent personal communication skills
- Accomplished organist/pianist an asset

**Job Type**: Part-time
