**Position Summary**
Our client, the **Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada** (HRAI) is seeking a Director of Standards and Regulatory Affairs. This position will oversee HRAI’ s manufacturers division and execute HRAI’s standards and regulatory affairs work. The role will have a significant focus on harmonization with U.S. & global regulations. The person will build HRAI’s position as a valued contributor to legislation, regulation, and standards across Canada.
Among HRAI’s aspirational goals are to be a recognized leader in Canada’s campaign to address the climate crisis; a catalyst for a workforce that is well prepared to meet the demands of a low carbon economy; and a trusted resource for information on HVACR codes, standards, trends, and best practices.
This role is in office, GTA (Mississauga-airport area) based, with some travel required as necessary.
**Primary Responsibilities**
- Oversee the HRAI Manufacturers Division and the related product section committees.
- Act as an HVACR Climate Champion with relevant stakeholder groups.
- Assist in the strategy development, objectives, and critical path for regulatory and GR.
- Regularly analyze, review, and recommend federal/provincial public policy positions.
- Act as the primary point of contact with AHRI on key issues of harmonization with HVACR policy, rules and regulations between Canada and the U.S.
- Regularly communicate the association’s interests to the government and stakeholders.
- Build positive external relationships with government representatives, key legislators (representing all political parties), key bureaucrats and other stakeholders to communicate HRAI’s interests and regulatory priorities.
- As required represent HRAI on government advisory committees, trade advisory groups and other stakeholder groups.
- Review legislation, government budgets and studies, and present persuasive arguments for the industry’s position (both written and oral).
- Prepare industry submissions, Member Notices, Member Alerts, Member Action Requests, media releases and speak on behalf of HRAI as needed.
- Periodically align with other business associations, as appropriate, to strengthen industry’s position on key issues through alliances, networks, and coalitions
- Communicate with members on policy and regulatory issues to understand their needs, identify federal issues of priority, receive member input, and respond to member questions and requests.
- When necessary, create and coordinate member working groups or committees.
- Periodically oversee research initiatives based on association better practices.
**Qualifications and Competencies**
- University graduate, preferably with a degree in logistics, engineering administration, or business.
- Three to five years experience in a regulatory, business, environment, or engineering environment.
- Project management skills including priority setting, planning, and budgeting.
- Working understanding of the government regulatory process.
- Flexibility to travel when required.
- Strong analytic and policy development skills.
- Proven communication skills (verbal and written), ability to influence and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
This role is a dynamic role with tight time frames for deliverables. Highly developed organization skills are a must. Knowledge of trades or experience in a non-profit trade association are an asset but not necessary.
**Application Process**
The salary range for the position is $110,000-$120,000, plus benefits, and bonus potential.

HRAI members are keenly interested in working with Environment and Climate Change Canada to harmonize the regulatory space between Canada and the United States on low global warming potential equipment.
Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
