**Hours of Work**: 37.5 hours per week (includes evenings and rotating weekends)

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Support and Service**

¨ Advocate for children and mothers in the social / justice community

¨ Complete intake and assessments of children and mothers

¨ Provide crisis support and counselling to children and their mothers

¨ Provide phone crisis support to children

¨ Provide accompaniment to mothers and children

¨ Provide information and referral to community supports and services

¨ Provide practical assistance, support, and training to children and mothers on non-violent approaches to discipline and parenting

¨ Provide ex-resident support to children and mothers as needed

¨ Plan and implement in-house programs for children and mothers

¨ Work in cooperation with the Women’s Advocate Workers with regard to case management

¨ Conflict mediation/resolution

¨ In consultation with the supervisor, develop and implement the children’s program manual

¨ Ensure the health and safety of all shelter residents

**Social Justice, Community Education, and Outreach**

¨ Active participation in community coalitions

¨ Active participation in in-house committees as required

¨ Public speaking and education as assigned

¨ Liaison with school, daycare centers, and other community resources

**Administration**

¨ Maintains accurate children’s files

¨ Complete all shelter documentation pertaining to the position

¨ Maintain accurate service statistics

¨ Other report writing as required

**General**

¨ Works co-operatively as a member of the shelter staff team

¨ Attends regular team meetings, staff training sessions, and other planned meetings/events

¨ Regularly attends supervision sessions with the direct supervisor

¨ Supervises placements of students and volunteers as required

¨ Other duties as required which facilitate the efficient operation of the organization

**Qualifications and Experience**

¨ CYW Diploma and three (3) or more years of direct work experience in a related setting or degree directly related to the position and two (2) or more years of direct work experience

¨ Experience working with children and women in the areas of violence, poverty, and homelessness

¨ Demonstrated commitment to the eradication of violence, homelessness, and all other forms of oppression

¨ Must have a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and insurance

¨ Criminal reference check required

¨ Second language an asset

¨ Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate required

¨ Medical clearance and functional abilities assessment are required for this position

**Salary**: $26.15 per hour
