Job Summary

The Product Manager (PM) will work closely with the Principal Investigator and members of the research team on study activities related to a research project titled "Using a virtual care platform to deliver peer-led mental health support to rural and remote communities in BC: A randomized wait-list controlled trial of the REACHOUT intervention." Our study aims to use technology and digital health strategies to "drive" mental health support to adults with type 1 diabetes in the greatest need. All of the responsibilities of the PM can be performed remotely using Zoom to connect with research team members, computer programmers, and research participants. This trial compares a 6-month peer-led virtual care platform to a wait
- list control condition on improving mental health outcomes. Participants randomized to the REACHOUT Mobile App, which offers one-on-one support, group texting support, and face-to-face group support compared to a wait-list control condition.

Organizational Status

The Product Manager (PM) position is with the Tang Laboratory Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism within the Department of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. The Project Manager (PM will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, Tricia Tang, PhD, RPsych, with the Project Coordinator.

Work Performed
- Review and discuss iterations of mobile app design prototypes (e.g., wireframes, mock-ups) with the research team and UI/UX designers to create user-friendly and intuitive product interfaces that meet the needs and expectations of end-users.
- Serve as the technical translator between the computer programmer, users, and research team.
- Contribute to creating a plan for ongoing development, maintenance, and support of the REACHOUT app; advise on issues related to scaling the app platform for wider use.
- Provide expert mobile app support when tech-support tickets have to be escalated beyond research assistants/help desk.
- Ensure developers and research team members have proper access and permissions to the development tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, development, testing teams, and platform assistants, to ensure alignment and successful app development.
- Oversee and track the development process using project management tools and methodologies, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Define acceptance criteria, devise test plans, and work with quality assurance teams to ensure the product is thoroughly tested and meets quality standards.
- Identify potential risks and challenges impacting the app's success and develop mitigation strategies.
- Embrace an iterative approach to app development, continuously seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation based on user and research team feedback.
- Address conflicts and disputes within the project team or with stakeholders and seek resolutions that are in the best interest of the project to foster a positive working environment.
- Critically review estimates and tasks shared by the shareholders using different methodologies, testing, validation, and POCs to control and manage the cost and scope of the project.
