**Hours**: 35 hours per week with ability to work all shifts (days, evenings, and weekends)
**Location**:Central Branch - Acquisitions & Cataloguing

**Do you have a passion for knowledge and excellent team working skills? Oakville Public Library has seven library branches that are dedicated to serving the diverse community of Oakville. In this role, you’ll support the public, collection and library operations within a branch to provide services that strive to Inspire Oakville.**

**What you'll do**
**As a Library Aide you will**:

- Process new library materials and reprocess materials where necessary to make them shelf ready
- Recommend suitable packaging and processing options for specialized collections and materials
- Design, produce and edit labels, inserts and/or reproduce and resize of cover artwork and images adhering to OPL branding and copyright guidelines
- Receive materials in the ILS Acquisitions module
- Using the ILS Cataloguing and Circulation modules search for, identify, retrieve and process/check-out library materials
- Respond to and update inter-library loan request information in VDX system
- Receive Periodicals in the ILS Serial Control module
- Check in and process hold material in ILS Circulation module.
- Accept deliveries and sort mail
- Monitor supplies inventory and distributing supplies to branches as required
- Monitor items held in the department for expedited processing
- Perform physical tasks including:

- lifting and unpacking library material bins and shipments
- pushing and unloading of book trucks
- relabel and repackage materials using fine motor skills
- Organize, shift and shelve materials in the department as required
- Assist with other assigned initiatives
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, other relevant health and safety legislation, and the Oakville Public Library’s Health & Safety Program

**We're looking for someone who can**:

- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrate knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and PDF editing tools for label design, use of scanning/printing equipment for image editing and reproduction.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Recommend innovative solutions, such as packaging options for non-traditional collections, to meet requirements for shelf readiness
- Communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with good working knowledge of English
- Demonstrate exceptional manual dexterity in order to create custom labeling and packaging
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate and problem solve effectively with co-workers
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment
- Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
- Demonstrate flexibility with work assignments and schedules
- Possess interest and enthusiasm in processing library materials

**Your experience and educational background**:

- Secondary school diploma with a minimum of 1 year related work experience in a customer service environment, preferably in a library environment
- Experience with integrated library systems, all modules as identified above
- Experience with VDX inter-library loan request management system would be considered an asset
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and PDF editing tools
- Experiences with RFID technology would be considered an asset
