**Summary**:
The Lab Supervisor is responsible for the day-to day running of the quality assurance lab. Activities include, but are not limited to, managing lab staff, scheduling the short-, medium
- and long-term work schedules, acting as the liaison between lab staff, product development vendors and the corporate brands business unit, management of shelf life and surveillance programs for all private label products.

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Management of Quality Assurance laboratory staff including providing work assignments, coaching and evaluating performance, time management
- Organization of daily tasks within the lab to ensure yearly fiscal goals are accomplished
- Responsible for ensuring the sensory testing program runs efficiently. This includes oversight of sample preparation, testing protocols, timelines and participant behaviour
- Must ensure timelines created by the corporate brands business development team are adhered to
- Manage the purchase and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment to ensure efficiency within the QA lab
- Responsible for ensuring all persons in the quality assurance lab understand and adhere to all lab protocols and health and safety requirements
- Support product development and other business units as required through the testing and scheduling of products
- Creation and maintenance of all laboratory standard operating procedures
- Management of quality surveillance program to adhere to yearly quota (vendor management, invoicing, holds/rejections, etc.)
- Communication and Coordination with Warehouse Operations teams for Quality Surveillance Program as required
- Management of private label Shelf Life Program (vendor management, interpretation of shelf life studies, etc.)
- Manage third party audit requirement for all approved vendors to ensure compliance to Metro's Corporate goal of GFSI certification
- Support the QA Ontario Warehouse Manager in technical requirements (thermometer calibrations, equipment calibrations, etc.)
- Support Out for Bid process as needed
- Liase with Metro’s third-party testing laboratories when external testing is required
- Assist the Quality Manager and/or QA Director with special projects as required

**Qualifications**:

- University degree or College diploma in nutrition, food science or a related discipline
- 3+ years’ experience in food quality assurance, laboratory or manufacturing
- Experience with food regulations would be an asset
- Excellent time management skills
- Sensory experience required
- Previous personnel management an asset
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills

- Internal corporate brands business group, product development and other business units
- External includes vendors and laboratory services providers
