**Employment Status**:Permanent Full-Time (40 hours per week)

**SUMMARY**
A Barn operator’s primary responsibility is to ensure the welfare of the birds under they’re care is maintained. This is done by ensuring the birds have been fed, that there is adequate and quality water available, monitoring pen temperatures, and handling live or deceased birds. Gathering eggs is also a primary responsibility of an operator as the eggs are graded for quality and packaged. Other responsibilities include daily record keeping and data entry of relevant information, weighing birds, and maintaining a clean workspace.
Barn operators may also be asked to assist with barn setup and preparation for new flocks as well as helping with flock placements and loadouts.
**SCHEDULE**
The Barn Operator schedule is a rotation that includes weekends for a total of 40 hours per week. An operator may need to work shifts that can include early mornings and late evenings outside of the normal schedule depending on operational needs.
**REQUIREMENTS**
- Experience in agriculture, specifically in animal agriculture is an asset but not required
- Ability to work with live poultry
- Strong commitment to health & safety
- Ability to lift up to 14kgs (30lbs)
- Ability to work both independently and as a team with mínimal supervision
- Pleasant, outgoing personality, with a friendly positive approach
- Willing to learn new skills
- Valid driver’s license & own transportation are preferred
**MAJOR DUTIES**
- Ensure welfare of birds is maintained
- Ensure water quality and supply are always available
- Gather and grade hatching eggs
- Monitor ventilation and temperature
- Maintain accurate daily records & enter data
- Handle mortalities as well as live birds
- Daily barn maintenance i.e., cleaning & maintaining workspace, monitoring and reporting broken equipment
