**THE OPPORTUNITY**

Maintenance, Full-Time

Reporting to Maintenance Manager

**THE HOTEL**:
Dual branded in the East Village of Calgary’s Downtown, our 198 room Hilton Garden Inn and 122 suite Homewood Suites, with 4,000 sq. ft. of naturally lit meeting space, restaurant, lounge, and indoor pool are adjacent to Calgary’s award winning Central Public Library, and one block Studio Bell. Conveniently located just one block from City Hall train station.

**THE ROLE**:
Maintenance contribute to the overall success of the hotels by responding to guests’ needs in an efficient and friendly manner; and ensuring the hotels’ guest rooms, public areas, and heart of house areas are maintained in a safe, economical, and reasonable manner, and available for sale each night.

**ACTIVITIES**:
The duties and responsibilities for **Maintenance** include, but are not limited to the following:

- Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the property.
- Respond to Front desk calls, assisting in checking rooms, luggage delivery and guest requests.
- Perform room and public area inspections and preventative maintenance on a routine basis. Communicate any unrepairable deficiencies to supervisor.
- Anticipate, identify and correct system breakdowns to achieve guest and team member satisfaction.
- Complete routine inspections on life safety systems (e.g. fire extinguishers, smoke detectors).
- Respond to emergency situations as required, including water, electrical, gas, and thermal emergency shutoffs if required.
- **Refurbish furniture and fixtures** within the hotel such as cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, drywall, windows and counters. Paint and finish furniture and fixtures, as needed.
- Perform general minor repairs and routine maintenance to property **plumbing**, **electrical**, **refrigeration**, **kitchen equipment**, **appliances**, **electronics**, **and** **HVAC systems**.
- Maintain pool facilities in clean and orderly condition. Test and balance pool and hot tub twice daily. Prepare weekly water samples.
- Maintain exterior of the building, including gardens, snow and ice removal, and debris removal, keeping the hotel’s appearance at its best.
- Support other departments and exceed co-worker expectations by providing exemplary teamwork, to enhance guest service.
- Report any equipment malfunction, emergency situations or suspicious persons to the Manager on Duty.
- Ensure all guests receive prompt attention, providing value-added service by doing whatever is reasonable and possible to exceed guest expectations.
- Ensure security standards are practiced, to protect guest’s privacy and belongings, as well as employee’s.
- Follow hotel policies in relation to key control, and the security of hotel property, including tools, supplies, and storage rooms.
- Adhere to all hotel policies and procedures, and follow procedures listed in shift checklists.
- Communicate with MOD and co-workers regarding product/service deficiencies, equipment, safety problems, etc.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures in place at the hotel and attend work on time as scheduled.
- Behave in a professional and honest manner.
- Adhere to all health & safety guidelines and standards. Ensure good safety practices of employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures.

**COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING**:

- At least 3 years of relevant building maintenance / operator work experience
- Ability to work **Evenings, weekends, holidays **and weekdays
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds overhead, and 70 pounds normally
- Completion of High School, GED or equivalent required.
- Excellent customer service, time management, organization, attention to detail and initiative.
- Ability to multi-task and work under heavy pressure / stress during busy times.
- Clear verbal & written communication skills.
- Job requires considerable walking and standing for long periods of time, frequent and repetitive lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, pushing and twisting.
- WHMIS required.
- Must be comfortable with computers and basic computer programs, and internet safety.
- Special consideration will be given to those who have specific experience with PTAC PMs, and multiple repair areas (plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, appliances)
- Pool Operators Certificate is an asset.
- Previous experience with Building Automation System is an asset.
