Côté Gold is being developed in partnership with the Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation and Métis Nation of Ontario, Region 3.
The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.
**Accessing Opportunities at Côté Gold**
**TAILINGS AND WATER TECHNICIAN**
The Tailings & Water Technician is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and performing or coordinating tasks related to tailings and water management at the Côté Gold site. They will collaborate and coordinate with mill & mine operations, maintenance, environment, projects and other departments, contractors, or consultants to ensure safe and efficient tailings and water operations for the site. The Tailings & Water Technician will maximize safe and effective operation of the tailings and water management facilities by proactively identifying any concerns and helping to develop methods to resolve them.
**Key Responsibilities**
Area 1:
Coordinating tailings & water resources.
- Adhere to safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Understand tailings & water processes, plans and activities to enable close collaboration with engineers, environment, mill, mine operations and maintenance personnel in preparing and coordinating safe and effective operations.
- Liaise with maintenance department to minimize impacts of observed deficiencies and maintenance delays.
- Provide and support communication links between mill, maintenance, mine operations, environment, projects, etc. in relation to tailings & water activities.
- Foster an inclusive work environment.
- Engage with vendors, consultants, and contractors where required.
Area 2:
Safe and effective tailings & water operation.
- Proactively identify issues and work collaboratively to resolve them to minimize impacts to operations.
- Identify safety and environmental hazards in the workplace and work together with health and safety to mitigate them in a timely manner.
- Monitor and inspect safety and performance of tailings and water dams (through inspection reports/checklists).
- Monitor and inspect safety and performance of tailings and water management infrastructure (through inspection reports/checklists).
- Support as required in conducting drone flights and bathymetric surveys of the tailings and other ponds.
- Support, if required, for ongoing tailings dam construction such as ensuring construction is as per design intent.
- Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
- Operate tailings & water management infrastructure such as pumps, spigots, valves, etc.
- Work to ensure that the tailings and water facilities are operated as per design intent.
- Review and understand the Operation, Surveillance and Maintenance manual (OMS) and provide input as needed
- Review and understand the overall tailings & water system and the key components for operational success.
Area 3:
Collaborating effectively with team members.
- Help mentor and train new team members.
- Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
- Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
- Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
- Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow-up.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
- Participate in the morning safety huddles.
- Ensure shift cross over notes are accurate and complete.
Qualifications
**Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves**
minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- A college diploma or university degree in a related field is considered an asset.
Work experience - Nature & Length
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
- Experience driving on mine sites and around heavy equipment is considered an asset.
- Experience operating drones and remote boats is desirable but not essential.
Additional qualifications - Competency requirements
- Previous exposure to tailings & water management infrastructure such as pumps, pipelines, valves, spigots, etc.
- Previous exposure to tailings and water dams.
- Proven communication skills, both verbal, written and non-verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Digital literacy is preferred.
