**Overview of Position**

**The Prairie Team **at Birds Canada is currently seeking one highly-motivated **Biostatistics Analyst **to take on a leadership role in data curation, data analysis, research, and monitoring activities for Birds Canada’s Grassland Bird Program. This position will be integral to translating grassland and wetland bird data collected through monitoring activities into the implementation of tools to inform management and compel positive change for birds on the Canadian Prairies. Providing expertise and input into the development of these tools and analyses, to inform management will be central to this role. This position provides an exciting opportunity to be part of important and novel work in Canadian grassland and wetland bird conservation and to contribute to halting and reversing biodiversity loss in the Canadian Prairies.

Anticipated start date is February 27th, 2023, and a contract duration of two years with potential for permanent employment.

**Duties and Responsibilities will include**:

- Database development and stewardship
- Developing code to produce data summaries
- Compiling results for reporting
- Conducting data analyses to support current deliverables and to guide further program development
- Providing expertise and input into appropriate analytical approaches, and helping with development of tools to inform stewardship and conservation
- Contributing to the program design and implementation of bird surveys
- Presenting on projects and findings
- Periodic travel within the prairies, including multi-day trips during the field season to support field staff or conduct field work as needed
- Other duties may be assigned as needed, including contributing to other Birds Canada program delivery

**Education**

**Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
- Excellent understanding and extensive experience with statistical programs (in particular R), and GIS programs (ArcView products)
- Strong problem solving and analytical capabilities
- Strong understanding of scientific methods and protocols for surveying birds
- Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing data
- Competency with prairie and bird ecology of western/central Canada
- Familiarity with analysis of point count and bioacoustics data
- Strong oral and written communication skills to clearly communicate complex ideas
- Database management skills
- Computer skills: ability to use a variety of computer programs (e.g., MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, ArcView products, R)
- Ability to organize and carry out complex tasks
- Self-starter able to work independently and with teams of colleagues and external partners in a decentralized work environment
- Bird survey experience considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
