Maintenance Worker

JOB SUMMARY:
The MW3 is an integral member of the Menno Place team and is required to have a commitment to the vision, mission and values of Menno Place. In performing duties, the Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper will follow Menno Place policies and procedures ensuring the provision of Resident and Family Centred Care (RFCC) while safeguarding staff and residents.
This position requires teamwork, communication and cooperation. It is the expectation that the individual in this position contributes to a positive, safe working environment, takes instruction well and cooperates with their supervisor and co-workers. This person manages their time well and participates in continuous quality improvement of services provided.
Under the direction of the Manager or delegate, the Maintenance Worker 3 performs duties related to the maintenance of buildings and equipment, assists with renovation projects and other facility-related tasks. The maintenance worker will also respond to emergency calls and follow up on security issues as they arise, site wide.
DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:
1. Applies paint and other finishes by brush, roller and/or spray; removes and replaces coverings such as tiles, linoleum and carpet.
3. Replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets; repairs plumbing such as water supply lines and waste lines.
4. Utilizes hand and power tools, cleans, sharpens and lubricates as required
5. Performs preventative and demand maintenance and repair procedures for related equipment.
6. Maintains exterior building and grounds such as window cleaning, pressure washing, grass cutting, trimming bushes / trees, fertilizing, weed control, cleaning gutters / drains, and collects and disposes of garbage / recycle material.
7. Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates. Answer alarms and investigate disturbances. Call security, police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12 plus 2 years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
Health & Safety
- Is aware of their rights and responsibilities and follow all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.
- Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to immediate supervisor. Does not operate or use faulty equipment.
- Promptly reports personal injury to supervisor and seeks first aid as needed.
- Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.
