**Simon House Residence Society **(operating as Simon House Recovery Centre)

Simon House is recruiting for an Counsellor for mental health and addictions who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of adult men who are experiencing alcohol and drug addiction.

**Service Responsibilities**
- Individual and group therapy and follow-up for all clients in accordance with the agency’s mandate, policies and procedures;
- Continued program development to grow the service offerings of Simon House incorporating new research and treatment approaches;
- Provide individual counselling to a caseload of clients.
- Deliver group counselling using the Simon House model of care, and provide group therapy to the clients.
- Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to crises situations involving clients, including assessing and addressing high risk behaviours (self-harm, suicide);

**Organizational Responsibilities**
- All conduct is done in accordance with relevant legislation and Agency Policies, Standards and Procedures;
- Successfully and thoroughly complete all required files including daily logs, assessment and progress reports.
- Approach the position with a growth and innovation mindset within Simon House Residence Society that would improve the quality of service;
- Develop and maintain respectful, cooperative working relationships to contribute to the integrated, seamless delivery of services by Simon House;

**Qualifications & Competencies**
- Minimum Diploma in Addictions, Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline, Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree is preferred.
- Current Addictions Counsellor or Counsellor registration with a professional College is an asset
- Two or more years experience in the provision of counselling services and/or leading group therapy sessions.
- Knowledge of addiction and comorbid mental health issues of those impacted and affected by addiction;
- Knowledge of trauma informed care
- Uphold 12-Step models and relevant recovery models and mental health initiatives at both individual and group levels
- Knowledge of and inclusion of positive traditional and cultural influences that support Indigenous mental health and wellness;
- Developing and maintaining respectful, cooperative working relationships with all parties to promote an integrated, seamless delivery of service;
- Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation;
- Knowledge of community agencies/resources currently available is desirable

Simon House has been a leader in men’s residential addiction treatment since 1984. We seek to guide and empowers individuals to achieve long term recovery from addiction and all of its effects. We acknowledge that the effects of addiction are wide reaching, and this person will aid in healing communities that the residents are returning to.
