Under the general direction of the Foreman or Lead Hand of Winnipeg Fleet Management Agency (WFMA), the Machinist is responsible for maintaining/overhauls of components and equipment including disassembling, assembling, selection of methods, tools, equipment and materials needed to required standards and specifications. This includes the maintenance and repair of city of Winnipeg owned equipment and facilities.

**As the **_Machinist_** you will**:

- Performs Necessary Repairs on Equipment and Facilities.
- Performs inspections and reports on city of Winnipeg Assets.
- Performs installation of additional equipment, accessories and fabrication.
- Maintains an established level of shop safety practices as per established Provincial Safety Standards and Internal S2 Safety Program.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- A valid Journeyperson Machinist Certificate with Interprovincial Status.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ current experience machining and repairing equipment and replacing parts and components as a journeyperson machinist.
- Experience verifying dimensions of parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Experience and proficiency with set up, operation, programming and maintaining a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) machinery and HAAS control operating system.
- Experience performing mechanical repairs in a machine shop and field environment.
- Experience performing vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance.
- Experience and proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-past environment, while maintaining attention to detail and be able to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal effectively with staff members, members of other City departments and the public.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions/procedures applicable to shop utility maintenance operations.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff members, members of other City departments and the general public.
- Proficient at sourcing and retrieving maintenance information electronically and online.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and prioritize work effectively.
- Effective computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to use Fleet Management software.

**Conditions of employment**:

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Possess and maintain a valid Journeyperson Machinist Certificate with Interprovincial Status.
- Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence, with the ability to obtain a Class 3 with air brake endorsement within one (1) year.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of this position with the ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to provide own hand and air tools.
- Ability to work day, evening and night shifts.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
