About the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law Over the past 20 years, the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa has become a national and global leader in many fields. - Position Purpose:
- Advises and ensures communication between the dean’s office, University senior management and teaching staff relative to the APUO collective agreement. Analyzes issues to recommend interventions and implement solutions. Manages dean’s office activities, supervises the special project coordinator and assists vice-deans in their administrative duties. Acts as the primary point of contact between the central Academic Affairs and Labour Relations team and the faculty.
- In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Integration of University academic processes: Handles integration of academic management processes and systems within the designated faculty planning or management framework. Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of both legislation and University of Ottawa policies, procedures and practices and their impact on the faculty’s academic operations. Helps develop local academic processes and practices and ensures they help achieve of faculty objectives.
- Advisory services: Provides consulting services and support to the dean and vice-deans on complex issues related to teaching staff and the collective agreement. Identifies problems, issues and implications for senior management concerning operational plans and recommends solutions.
- Labour relations: Advises and supports the dean and vice-deans on employee relations, including workload, performance, promotions, leave and other issues pertaining to the collective agreement. Investigates special cases and recommends courses of action. Participates in grievance resolution processes during stage one. Collaborates with the faculty management team and the central Academic Affairs and Labour Relations team, and resolves issues related to accommodations, disability management, harassment and other health and safety issues.
- Recruitment and selection: Coordinates posting and selection process for new professors in accordance with human resources policies and procedures and collective agreements. Implements selection processes for new departmental chairpersons and advises on matters related to management of teaching staff.
