- Casual Relief Transition House Worker**

**Harbour House is a safe, non-judgemental trauma-informed environment providing shelter and outreach services to women and their children who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing violence and abuse. Our catchment area includes Lunenburg** **and Queens counties in Nova Scotia.**

Harbour House is currently seeking **Casual Relief Transition House Workers**. Transition House Workers provide crisis intervention, supportive counselling, advocacy and referrals, intake and needs assessment, information/education, case management, and administration and routine house management duties. Provisions of service include a 24hr crisis line, intake and group facilitation, safety planning, and life-skills supportive counselling.

The successful applicant will work from a trauma informed feminist perspective. She will be compassionate and energetic with an interest and aptitude for working with women and children and have a comprehensive understanding of domestic violence, the cycle of violence, and the challenges facing women wanting to leave an abusive situation. She will be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a high stress work environment.

The position of Casual Transition House Relief would be ideal for someone who is flexible as shifts may be irregular and sporadic. We are a unionized workplace and there is the potential of part-time full time employment as up-coming unionized positions become available. Relief workers are oncall when needed, often times on short notice, and may be asked to work a little or a lot according to the needs of Harbour House.

On the job training will be provided.

**Qualifications**:

- A university degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Women’s Studies, or other related field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education/training/human services experience will also be considered.
- A clear understanding of woman abuse/violence against women
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- First Aid and CPR
- Criminal Records check and Vulnerable Persons Abuse Record check
- Previous experience in a residential setting, group facilitation, support counselling, and advocacy work in a community based background are desirable assets.
