The Community Justice Worker is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the Direct Accountability Program and Program Options for Chatham/Kent County. The Direct Accountability Program is an alternative to formal prosecution for people18+ who have been charged with minor criminal offences. The program involves accused persons being held accountable through community-based sanctions.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Coordinate, facilitate and promote the Direct Accountability Program, including Program Options for Chatham/Kent
- Coordinate community placements and monitor completion of Community Service Hours
- Facilitate group and/or one-to-one program options including Stop Shop Theft, Alcohol and Drug Awareness and Anger and Substance Awareness Programs
- Assigns sanctions
- Assist in the collection and distribution of Charitable Donations and Restitution
- Process Referrals, Intakes and Completions
- Liaise with Crown Attorney, Police Services and Community Partners
- Attend all scheduled Chatham Court dates as required remotely or in person
- Prepare/submit case notes, court reports, attend meetings, prepare monthly and quarterly statistical forms for the Ministry of the Attorney General and The Salvation Army as requested
- Act as a Health and Safety Representative for the Chatham Office
- Perform other position related duties as required

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
This is a permanent full-time position based on 25 hours per week Tuesday to Friday and includes a ½ hour unpaid lunch. Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities - some weekend and evening may be required.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Completed two (2) or more years of Community College, i.e. Social Services Diploma or equivalent diploma is required
- Degree in Social Services preferred
- Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certifications
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance, a current copy of a driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:

- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience
- Knowledge and experience in restorative justice practices
- Working knowledge of the area and community of Chatham and Kent County
- Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada

**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES**:

- Ability to work both independently and under co-operative supervision
- Ability to relate to adults in group settings and one-to-one settings
- Ability to adhere to The Salvation Army Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics
- Good public relation skills
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attentive and active listening skills; effective group skills
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
