Manager, Human Resources (HR) is responsible for providing comprehensive HR leadership and support to the Intermodal Services Division. Manager, Human Resources will partner with management to implement HR programs and policies, specific to the Division, and in alignment with the parent company Western Group. As a member of the Intermodal Services senior leadership team, the Manager, Human Resources cultivates a positive organizational culture, and enables operational excellence by delivering the end-to-end HR experience efficiently and effectively.

**Responsibilities & Activities**:

- Manages the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of all divisional HR related activities to ensure a positive employer brand.
- Serves as a partner, builds understanding of business operations and effectively applies knowledge in making HR recommendations to management.
- Establishes and oversees progressive and unbiased recruitment strategies to attract and retain high-performing talent, including effective management of the employee life cycle.
- Oversees the onboarding of new employees.
- Administers the employee performance management program and provides guidance to managers regarding effective performance management techniques to engage and develop employees and improve retention and productivity.
- Addresses all employee relations issues, provides coaching to managers and employees, conducts investigations and prepares appropriate documentation.
- Oversees and advocates for employee engagement and wellness initiatives and facilitates effective and timely communication between all employees.
- Collaborates with senior leadership team to understand organizational goals, identify areas of opportunity and implement people initiatives as part of annual planning cycle and long-term growth strategies.
- Facilitates the assessment, creation and execution of talent reviews, training and development, and succession planning initiatives with senior leadership team.
- Maintains and ensures compliance with Western Group compensation and benefits programs.
- As part of the company’s compensation structure, understand the Canadian and regional landscape, periodically review compensation internal equity and market data, and provide data-based recommendations to senior leadership as needed.
- Ensures consistent administration of HR policies, procedures and programs, and ensures compliance with all related regulations by remaining current on employment laws and regulations and required reporting. Examples include, but are not limited to: Employment Standards Act, WorkSafeBC and BC Human Rights Code.
- Takes a lead role with union relations, including collective agreement administration and negotiations.
- Draft and implement the organization’s staffing budget, and that of the HR department.
- Supports HR initiatives at Western Group as required.
- Some interprovincial travel will be required
- Is an ambassador for the Company in the community, plays a support role in representing the Company with staff and key external stakeholders in a professional and consistent manner.
- Ensures effective working relationships are developed and fostered both internally and externally.
- **Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a degree in Human Resources or a related discipline supplemented by a minimum of five (5) years of related experience that includes working at a leadership level in culture building, people development, performance management and policy compliance.
- CPHR Designation is a strong asset.
- Experience with supporting multi-site business operations.
- Experience in logistics, warehousing, or the transportation industry would be an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable HR processes and Provincial (and Federal) legislation, and the principles of union/management relationships.
- Strong business acumen, analysis skills, and ability to think critically, conceptualize issues, and systemically address them.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to facilitate, negotiate, resolve conflict and persuade others.
- Proven interpersonal skills; dynamic team player able to inspire, work alongside, engage others, build networks and develop trusting relationships.
- Strong technical skills (Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Social Channels)
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, facilitate resolution of issues, and evaluate operational performance results.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and guide the translation of strategy into operations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish courses of action for self and others.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, mentor, and coach staff.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and to influence change and decision-making.
