Chilliwack, Canada Skowkale First Nation Full time

The Village Maintenance Worker position supports Skowkale, Aitchelitz, and Yakweakwioose, maintaining community buildings and homes including landscaping, upkeep, repairs, painting, minor plumbing, garbage removal, and servicing of equipment and tools, etc. This position operates various vehicle types, equipment, hand and power tools in the performance of their duties. This role is a backup for water system and sewer operations.

**Responsibilities and Duties**:

- Care and maintain community buildings and housing grounds lawn mowing, raking, clipping, leaf blowing, weed eating, removing debris, pressure washing,
- Acts as the backup for water system operator and sewer treatment
- Operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment
- Operate small equipment and hand tools including chain saws, snow blower, pole saw, power trimmers, and pruning equipment
- Maintain all equipment in clean and operating order; topping up with fuel and oil; perform safety checks as required on all vehicles, notifying the manager of any mechanical problems. Take in for repairs as required.
- Operate garbage truck for waste removal and collection
- Performing preventative maintenance on fleet and equipment and bringing them in for regular servicing.
- Operate plow and tractor to remove snow from roads and sidewalks—salting and sanding areas as required.
- Repairing and maintaining the Skowkale cemetery, including digging graves, setting headstones, and landscaping
- Guide summer students for general labour activities, including landscaping, completing tasks for elders, garbage pickup, gutter cleaning, power washing, yard work, painting, etc.
- Follow all laws, regulations, organizational policies and procedures, and safety requirements in the performance of duties.
- On-call for emergencies as needed
- Develop and maintain a detailed work plan according to seasons and required maintenance of all village assets

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Experience operating various heavy equipment, hand and power tools
- Able to prioritize and organize multiple demands and workload
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and mechanically inclined
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience operating small equipment, including trimmers, chain saws, pruning equipment, etc.
- Able to work with mínimal supervision

**Training, Education, Certification, and Experience**
- EOCP Certification, small waste-water system and small water system operator level 1 or willing to obtain certification as a condition of employment
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with a water and waste-water system is preferred and one (1) year working in a maintenance role
- Experience working with First Nation communities
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license

**Working Conditions**
- The Ground Maintenance Worker will work primarily outdoors, and in all weather conditions.
- Certain safety equipment will be provided such as gloves, safety hats, safety vest, however employee will be expected to provide their own appropriate footwear, (CSA) Approved.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $24.45-$26.09 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
