Nature and Scope
Reporting to the Inclusion Director, the Inclusion Camp Counsellor will ensure to provide support to all counsellors they need to provide a safe and inclusive program for all campers. The main function of this role will be to work with campers who require varying additional support throughout the camp day, and coaching staff on managing difficult situations.
Work Schedule
- Seasonal; Monday-Friday, June 17th, 2024- September 1st, 2024 - 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
- Attends regular staff meetings and fully participates in all pre-camp trainings.

**Locations**: YMCA of Oakville campsites

**Responsibilities**:

- Act as a resource for camp staff regarding inclusive programming.
- Develops and submits weekly program plans and schedules to Inclusion director and inclusion specialist.
- Plans and delivers a wide range of developmentally appropriate programs to groups of children and youth.
- Provide one on one or two on one support to campers with additional needs. Manage behavioural incidents and implement behavioural redirection techniques when needed.
- Plans, coordinates, and executes camp wide theme days and special events.
- Ensures all camp staff have access to program resources and provides ongoing support and ideas for program improvement.
- Acts as a positive role model for children, youth, co-workers, and families.
- Supports camp counsellors, volunteers and placement students with camp programming and group facilitation strategies.
- Complete all necessary paperwork (site checks, program paperwork, incident reports, pre-camp phone calls, staff meetings, and parent feedback).
- Recognizes when immediate follow up is required with families and ensures all inquiries and issues are escalated in a prompt & professional manner with On-Site Coordinator.
- Ensures compliance with YMCA of Oakville Child Protection policies and procedures, and public health guidelines.

**Requirements**:

- Must be atleast 16 years old.
- Experience in planning and leading programs for children and youth.
- Experience with behaviour management and working with children and youth with varying needs (desired).
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
- Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ (prior to the first day of camp).
- Must have a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening if over 18 years old.

Working Conditions & Settings
- Physical activity involving active movement (ex. lifting, pulling, pushing; lifting to 50lbs).
- Regular travel to camp sites.
- Regular exposure to stressful situations. May be exposed to some conflict and emotionally charged situations.
- Must be able to work after hours or when deemed necessary to meet deadlines and deal with urgent situations.
- General environment consists of various active camp locations, including indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Must be prepared to travel on a bus with participants and supervise off-site for trips.
