Job Summary

The Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) is a collaborative research and knowledge mobilization centre that cares about improving child well-being. We are an interdisciplinary team of faculty, staff and affiliates dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children, youth and their families and promoting equity from the start. Having established itself as a well-respected and internationally renowned research centre for over 20 years, HELP maintains strong relationships with school districts and other key partners in community and in the health, social service and municipal sectors. These relationships have allowed the centre to make an impact at multiple levels, ranging from government policy and investment, to regional and community development and service planning, to local school district programs and initiatives. Organizational Status
This position reports to the HELP Faculty Director in SPPH and will work with HELP Faculty members, the Sr. Manager, Indigenous Initiatives and interact with various teams within HELP. The Research Data Analyst will liaise with HELP Aboriginal Steering Committee and collaborates with HELP’s Leadership teams; as well as students and staff at HELP.

Work Performed

The position will include leading:

- The development and planning stages of customized research design of HELP’s large population level databases and the interpretation of data drawn from multiple and longitudinal sources, with a particular focus on data for Indigenous children from the Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (CHEQ), Early Development Instrument (EDI) and Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI), including:

- completing analytical research on HELP’s data collection tools and data to emerge interesting findings for Indigenous children;
- trouble-shooting data quality problems; and
- recommending methods to improve quality of data collection processes.
- Consultations with the Aboriginal Steering Committee regarding the processes and practices for this project;
- Engagements with Indigenous communities, elders and/or governing bodies around data sovereignty;
- In collaboration with other Data Analysts/Statisticians and researchers at HELP, reviewing and maintaining protocols that support the development of mechanisms and processes of the on-going quality of HELP’s databases;
- In collaboration with faculty, designing and developing statistical analysis strategies and integrating feedback from research group, Aboriginal Steering Committee and potentially Indigenous communities and/or organizations;
- Developing syntax and computer programs as required to ensure data analyses can be performed in an efficient and reliable manner;
- Overseeing data collection and conducting analyses;
- Developing a data platform for Indigenous data that adheres to Indigenous data sovereignty principles;
- Developing a data access framework that adheres to Indigenous data sovereignty principles;
