**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
We are seeking an outgoing individual who enjoys providing exceptional customer service. In order to provide exceptional customer service this job requires someone who is knowledgeable in the hardware/home improvement sector and/or who is willing to learn the product categories we cover in order to do so. The assistant manager is primarily responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring all staff do the same. He/She is generally responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the store as assigned by the owner or manager. These duties commonly include supervision of personnel, serving as manager in his/her absence; helping to meet sales and financial objectives, including advertising and promotions planning; working on special projects; supervising inventory, merchandising, pricing; and facilitating communications between management and employees. The assistant manager performs all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the level of service to customers.

**DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Key holder, opens and closes store and performs cash reconciliations.
- Assists in hiring, training and developing store personnel.
- Provides leadership with a positive image to employees and customers.
- Follows and enforces company policies and procedures for retail operations.
- Responsible for maintaining control of shrink, labor, ordering and merchandising to meet company goals.
- Assists customers by providing information, answering questions, obtaining merchandise requested, completing payment transactions etc.
- Responsible for documentation of policies, procedures, violations, administrative paperwork, and notification of store manager for guidance regarding personnel problems.
- Maintains inventory by checking merchandise to determine inventory levels, anticipating customer demand.
- Assists in maintaining store conditions to meet or exceed standards.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Provides customers with a pleasant shopping experience.
- Performs other related tasks as needed
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- **Position requires some product knowledge of hardware and related products along with a willingness to learn.**:

- Education/Training: High school degree or GED equivalent, some college preferred but not necessary.
- Experience: minimum of 2-5 years retail supervisor or manager.
- Skills/Knowledge: Strong leadership and analytical skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations. Strong problem solving and organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with high attention to detail. Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
- A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
- Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and take leadership role in training and coaching team members on skills needed to positively impact sales. Holds self and team accountable. Strong discipline/documentation skills.
- Maintain composure while supervising multiple tasks and handling customer issues.
- Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail, ability to multi-task and make sound decisions.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business and customer.
- Must be able to lift frequently to load and unload store/customer orders.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended period of time.
- Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and perform all functions

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:

- Reports directly to the store owner or store manager.
