Reporting to the Guardian Manager, the Guardian Admin & Technical Support provides support for community projects, membership, and the Shuswap Band Guardians with technical and administrative assistance. The position supports the lead guardians with scheduling field work, project planning, managing, monitoring and responding to InReach check-ins. They assist the “boots-on-the-ground” Guardians and act as the “eyes and ears” of the territory. Their focus is to help maintain Shuswap Band’s traditional values while coordinating with external partners and establishing a presence within our Traditional Caretaker Area. You will work as a technical and administrative liaison with external partners on archeology, fishery, forestry, construction, and wildlife monitoring projects.
**Responsibilities**:
- Support Guardian Leads and Referral Coordinators with scheduling. This will include contacting proponents regularly about scheduling and keeping both external and internal teams up to date on Guardian availability.
- Monitoring, managing, and responding to InReach Check-ins.
- Activating the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) when necessary.
- Providing administrative support to Shuswap Band Guardians. This includes helping create and process cheque/travel requisitions, develop project invoices, maintain up-to-date records, support training coordination, and help with other administrative tasks, as needed.
- Help educate youth, visitors, and community members on land stewardship programs and initiatives.
- Promote cultural programs such as youth elder mentorships, on-the-land youth programs, subsistence harvesting, language camps, etc.
- Integrate local and traditional knowledge to manage and steward lands and waters.
- Maintain a presence on lands through observation, recording, and reporting.
- Write reports and deliver to supervisor as requested.
- Monitor, research, and collect data on priority issues (i.e., wildlife, climate, contamination, visitor impacts, illegal activity, compliance, etc.). Includes species and habitat identification, monitoring, and protection.
- Build relationships with enforcement and compliance support team members.
- Help with community clean-up projects. Duties include garbage, recycling, composting and general maintenance of our lands and homes.
- Deliver wood to community members as needed. Work in community gardens, planting, weeding, and watering.
- Help with set up and take down before and after Community Events.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
**Qualifications**:
- Basic computer skills
- Educational interest in conservation and natural resource management.
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude during long periods of work in the field.
- Willingness to work away for extended periods of time within the Shuswap Territory.
- Previous experience using satellite phones/personal location devices and two-way radio is ideal.
- Can demonstrate good organizational skills by taking simple, clear notes.
- Can demonstrate good communication skills. You are an active listener and observer and ask good questions.
- Proven ability to work independently and interact positively with project managers, supervisors, clients, field partners, and landowners.
- A valid British Columbia Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record are ideal but not required.
- Willingness to attain an OFA Level 1 First Aid certificate and Transportation Endorsement.
- Ability to work long days in the field and for extended periods of time. Up to 12 hours a day, five days a week.
- Ability to safely operate 4x4 vehicles on unmaintained roads.
- Able to hike approximately 20 km per day, carrying equipment over uneven terrain with elevation gain.
- Be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
- Must be willing and able to work in all types of weather (rain, wind, extreme temperatures) and varied terrain (from wetlands to mountain tops).
- Previous Administrative experience is an asset.
- Previous experience working with or for First Nations.
- Previous experience in orienteering is an asset.
- Wildlife knowledge and safety awareness.
- Familiarity with Rocky Mountain/East Kootenay flora and plant ID is an asset.

**Salary**: $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.5 - 40 per week
